This Subs History
This 1972 GMC Carry All or Suburban has been family owned since it was new. My grandfather originally bought this truck with a 24' Travel Trailer. The Suburban was bought as a daily driver and all around camping vehicle. It was bought with these purposes in mind, So it was originally equipped with a Chevy 350 motor, 350 Trans, 4:56 gears for towing, A huge 50 gallon gas tank to go on long trips. It has a front and rear A/C. This truck has alot of sentimental value. When my grandfather past on he left to my dad, then it came to me. It was built as a 2 wheel drive and was in California, all its life until I got it. At which time its been in Utah, Arizona and now back in California. The sub is all original all the way to the engine. With 337,000 original miles and still going strong, with only a timing chain on the list of major repairs the sub is in pretty sound shape.
In its early years this sub was used as a daily driver to get to and from work for my grandfather. He traveled approximately 6 miles round trip. When it came time to go on vacation it was hooked up to a 24 ft. Terry travel trailer to make the trip from Rosemond, Ca. to the June Lake Loop just north of Bishop, Ca. That trip was made twice a year, once in May for opening of trout fishing, and again for the closing in October. We spent many a day either hunting, fishing or camping with this old sub.
The past 5 yrs living in Utah took its toll on the sub, with all the snow and salt they put on the roads some rust has set in. With the help of friends I hope to take care of this problem and have it ready to paint in a month or two. This has been a dream of mine to convert it to 4wd, but hasn't became a reality until the last 2 months. As you can see in the pics, this is the shape that I received the sub in, with the exception of the window tinting.
