Contacts in Lari

Characterization of NPCs will come later, as Lari grows through the campaign. This page is aimed at assisting in character generation, to answer the question, "Who are these people and why should I spend points on them?"

All point values given can be modified for frequency, as appropriate. Ex: Count Delfin as a Patron costs +15 points if he appears on a 9 or less. If he appears quite often (on a roll of 12 or less) his cost is increased to +20.

Powerful NPCs

These NPCs are all 100 points or more, and can act as Patrons, Contacts, or Enemies.

Countess Charlee
The countess of Ritone is a stern, no-nonesense military woman. She is a member of the Queen's Council, marking her as one of the nine most politically powerful women in Saromatia. She takes good care of her people, making her a valuable Patron. Personal Enemies of the Countess need not watch their backs - she will likely seek formal reparations in a duel or war. Enemies of Ritone, however, will have to deal with the machinations of Sir Beatritz.
Patron: +20 points
Enemy: -20 points

Count Delfin
Another grizzled old campaigner, Charlee trusts her husband implicitly. He is one of her best generals and closest advisors. Men in the military find it advantageous to their careers to have Delfin as a Patron. Those on his bad side will find their progress through the ranks effectively halted.
Patron: +15 points
Enemy: -15 points

Viscountess Aelis
Charlee's daughter is far happier in the company of poets than warriors. This is causing significant mother-daughter tension. As a Contact, she is a friendly source of court gossip. As an Enemy, she spreads vicious rumors. Aelis does not make a good Ally, unless the PCs are going on a particularly romantic quest - she wouldn't be interested in the endeavor.
Contact: 3 points
Enemy: -10 points

Sir Beatritz
Ritone's spymatrix is a small, quiet woman with a large, scheming mind. As a Patron, she might not always have the PCs best interests in mind; as an Enemy, she's implacable. She is not in the habit of giving out information, so she may not be taken as a Contact.
Patron: +10 points
Enemy: -15 points

Eufrasia
Eufrasia is the countess's alchemist. As a Contact, she will happily chat about alchemical matters for hours; she can sometimes even help identify unknown elixers. Those on her bad side often find that her potions have unexpected side effects.
Contact: 3 points
Enemy: -7 points

The Lari Watch
The town maintains a group of women and men to keep a lookout for disturbers of the peace, especially at market times. If a Patron, the PC was probably a former Watch member; expect preferential treatment from the Watch. As an Enemy, all or part of the Watch is just waiting for an excuse to arrest the PC.
Patron: +15 points
Enemy: -20 points (entire Watch), -10 points (one squad in the Watch)

NPCs Around the Castle

These NPCs are too weak to be effective Patrons or Enemies (except possibly in groups). They make fine Contacts, and a few could be bought as an Ally for 5 points. Point costs next to names indicates cost as a Contact.

Doctor Catarina (3 points) Doctor Catarina is the Countess's personal physician. It is also her job to provide medical assistance to anyone the Countess names, so buying her as a Contact isn't for that. Rather, she's a font of information about medicine and about Vezias, the city which houses the university she attended.

Berard (2 points) Berard is the castle's one-eyed falconer. In addition to knowing about falcons, he knows the area around Lari and is knowledgeable in all sorts of woods lore. Berard could be an Ally.

Sir Not-Appearing-in-This-Film (2-3 points) There are twenty knights housed in the castle at Lari. Any one of them would make a fine Ally or perhaps Contact. Contacts can provide information on military matters, particularly what recent orders have been.

NPCs Around Town

Same as NPCs Around the Castle, but found in the town of Lari.

Zazabeth (2 points) Zazabeth is the bartender and owner of the Kort and Carrot, the local tavern and inn. She sees the comings and going of the town of Lari and gets news and rumors from the road.

Dulcina (3 points) Dulcina is the head of the Lari Watch.
