lifespan 7: Adios, Aiden!

Aiden's Absenteeism
Due to poor timing around a cancelled tribal council, Aiden could not keep votes together to remove disruptive, defeatist tribemate Rob.  Not wanting anything to do with this constant complainer, Aiden edged himself out of the tribe.  Other tribemates were voted off and finally Aiden was in a position to face-off against his nemesis at Tribal Council, but Aiden was so removed from the game by then that he missed his opportunity and was himself voted off.

Aiden's Adventures
Aiden was a good player in the early game, participating in the challenges and being a pretty decent tribemate.  He made a loyal alliance with Staton, and when Miriam received votes at the first tribal council allied with her as well.  Aiden didn't trust Rob and knew he'd voted for Miriam, and when Rob started causing trouble for no reason, Aiden used this as ammunition to put together a voting block against Rob.

Aiden distinguished himself by enlisting Vince as a fourth with Miriam, Staton and himself — four votes to counter the four of the Karen-Rob-Janei-Mike alliance who had all voted for Miriam.  True, Rob was a strong player — but so was Miriam.  If KRJM could vote Miriam for being disruptive, Aiden felt more than justified in voting for Rob.

This might have had a profound effect on the game, but that Shane C was disqualified which exempted Cree from the second tribal council.  In just a couple short days, Aiden's voting block fell apart as Rob apologized.  Cree was suffering a losing streak and felt they couldn't afford to vote off strong players, no matter how badly they might behave.

Aiden had invested a great deal into Rob's removal, not wanting anything to do with what Rob stood for.  He suspected that some of his tribemates silently agreed with Rob, and confessed, "Vote me off if that's the case.  'Cuz if Rob is in the game for a while, that would just drive me wild!"  And that's exactly what happened, as Aiden was aggravated by this persistent thorn in his side.

Why Aiden?
Once his voting block fell apart, Aiden did not participate in a single challenge or tribal council, missing the last five competitions.  Aiden was clearly the weak link at this point.  Nonetheless, this was a closely contested Tribal Council, and resembles the first TC when Tiffany was voted out over Miriam, 5-4.  Cree split along the very same lines — which is a testament to how well-liked Aiden was.

Herein lies the real tragedy for Aiden:  He so disliked Rob that he fell out of the game, forfeiting his vote and the power that could have removed Rob from the game.  Aiden could have achieved what he wanted if he'd only persevered.

What could Aiden have done?
Specifically, Aiden should have kept up minimum participation so that he would have been eligible to vote at tribal council.  That alone would have made the vote 3-2 Rob vs Aiden.

More generally, Aiden shouldn't have let Rob get to him.  He should have been patient, stuck with the game, and bided his time until numbers were right to finally oust his arch-nemesis.

Who Else?
Rob - Clearly, if it wasn't Aiden, it would have been Rob.  This was the first challenge Rob missed and the first time he took a self-vote.  For this to occur at the same time that the numbers on Cree were evenly divided created very favourable conditions for Rob's elimination.  Luckily for Rob, this was only a close call as his greatest critic also missed the vote.

Miriam and Staton - Although they are a minority in the tribe, Miriam and Staton have been very diplomatic and helpful on the challenges, and are likeable besides.  It would be a shame if either of them failed to make it to the merge.

Janei and Karen - It's equally unlikely that they would have taken any votes.  Rob is a shield for them, his dislikability a magnet for votes.  So long as others can vote for Rob, Janei and Karen are fairly safe.

Conclusion
Aiden said on his application:  "I get very anxious about things.  I need to learn to be patient and not make my moves so quickly."  Aiden realized his weakness; unfortunately, he was not able to overcome it.
