Episode Eleven

Previously, on Survivor Canada

Having eliminated all of the original Cree, Keyano celebrate an all-Paleo final six.  However, they are all wondering who they can trust as they expect the cut-throat phase of the game to begin.  Jon wins the immunity challenge but Rick controls the Tribal Council with a reward which allows him to silence another tribemember.  In a 5-0 vote, Shane becomes the fifth jury member.

KEYANO, NIGHT 29

While the others are lighting the campfire from their torches, Rick makes a confessional.  "I wanted to stick with Tab, Shane and Diana for the final four.  However, Diana didn't really want to vote out Jon before Shane.  I saw the vote going as a tie between Shane and either Kelley or Jon.  Well, I wasn't going to be left on the outside looking in if it did end up a tie... so I decided it would benefit me to switch over and be on the safe side."  Rick adds, "The way the cards are falling right now, it looks pretty good that I'll make Final Four, at least."

Diana also makes a confessional:  "I'm a little disappointed that Shane just threw in the towel; it was a challenging game until then.  I hope he's not taking it personally, but what's the point of playing if you're not playing to win?  He's a good guy, as are all the people here; it's fun."

KEYANO, DAY 30

Rain comes in the morning.  It isn't a heavy rain by any means, but an oppressive, cold drizzle — a claustrophobic dampness dripping from the moss-covered branches.  The Survivors have a lot of work to do to keep their fire burning.

Tabatha and Rick comment on the weather for a bit.  Tabatha is feeling tired despite getting a "nap" during the night.  Rick feels like that makes it worse sometimes; unless he gets enough rest he can feel more tired after a nap than he did before it.

That morning, Jon finds Treemail — unexpectedly, as they usually have a free day after Tribal Council.  Jon reads it to his tribemates:

This challenge is based on your will:
I hope you're willing to waste your time,
Or you may be next in the booting line.

REWARD CHALLENGE (PART ONE), DAY 30

Zoe arrives in camp shortly thereafter, to start a reward challenge she calls "Hot Potato."

The challenge is a good old-fashioned game of Hot Potato!  She will give the potato to someone, and it will be passed between tribemates, continuing until time is called.  This will be a long-term challenge, so the Survivors can go about their camp activities while passing the potato around.  They can use secrecy and misdirection, and have fun with it.

Zoe promises a twist to the challenge.  One of the players will receive the potato shortly.

Tabatha receives the potato first.  She passes it to Kelley.  Kelley hangs onto it for a little while, then slips it to Diana.

Diana's eyes dart between the other women and the potato.  A wicked smile spreads across her lips.

KEYANO, DAY 30

Rick returns to camp a little while later to find Diana, Kelley, Tabatha and Jon eating soup for lunch.  The four of them break out laughing when Rick discovers that it's potato soup!  They offer Rick some, but he's afraid it'd be bad luck — the worst kind of luck for messing with one of Zoe's challenges!  His tribemates aren't too concerned, and think it's a good joke.  Besides, they're just about starving and need the food.

Talking about the challenge, Rick learns that he and Jon never received the potato.  He jokes about the girls "ganging up on us" — despite his apparent good humour, Rick wonders if Tabatha, Kelley and Diana do have a secret deal going.

Rick excuses himself from camp when his stomach starts grumbling.  While he's off collecting more firewood, Rick makes a camera confessional:  "I am stunned by the fact that I was totally shut out of the Reward Challenge today.  It sure does open my eyes.  I know I must have immunity from this point on to make sure I stay in.  No one else will ever win immunity in this game but me!  I do not care what it takes, or by what means I use to do it, I will win all immunities from here on out!  'Cause after this reward challenge, I realize it is all or nothing."

Tabatha has had her own revelations, which she speaks of in a confessional.  With Shane gone, she wonders if the others were on to them.  "New strategy:  I am sticking to Rick's side like glue now.  Geez, I hope this works... hope this next challenge is something I am good at, maybe I can win it and keep myself safe.  Go Me!"

REWARD CHALLENGE (PART TWO), DAY 31

Zoe returns to Keyano's camp a day after the Reward Challenge began.  There's a bemused expression on her face.

"Good Day Y'all.  Wow, 24 hours, one little potato, and (technically) it was only passed four times."  She chuckles.  "I expected this to go around and around and around... and when I stopped the challenge I would determine the winner by the number of times you all received it... the most being the winner."  Zoe tells them that she never expected, though she probably should have, what they did with the challenge potato.

"Well, there's only one way to score this challenge... Since four of you got it (one way or another) and one person did not get the potato at all... that person will be the winner!"

"Congratulations, Rick, you have won this reward."

For the second time in a row, Rick picks a reward box.  On this occassion he picks the green box — green for the prize money he hopes to take home at the end of the game.

Zoe doesn't allow Rick to keep it a secret this time, telling everyone that Rick has chosen the ability to "Reverse a castaway's vote on himself/herself at the next Tribal Council."  A very powerful reward, it's a vote-nullifier and an extra vote combined into one!

KEYANO, DAY 31

After winning a powerful reward, Rick belatedly gets together with Tabatha to discuss the "Shane issue" from the last Tribal Council.

He tells her that he saw how things were going to be, that it was Diana who decided to vote for Shane.  When Shane self-voted, the best they could have hoped for was a tie which, "Shane would have lost because of previous votes and you and I would have ended up on the wrong side of the game."  So Rick claims that he had no choice but to vote Shane, and that he silenced Tabatha's vote to protect her so that Kelley wouldn't know Tabatha voted for her.

Rick continues, "I just wanted to clear the air with you and find out where we stand.  At this point, the game is getting tougher and tougher and I just wanted to see where 'we' stand."

Tabatha admits, "I almost voted for Shane but couldn't bring myself to actually do it."  She says that they're fine, and that she is going to "work my arse off" for immunity.

"After this reward challenge," Rick says, "and the other three shutting us out of it, I feel that in spite of my decisions on Shane, we are on the outside looking in."  Tabatha agrees.  She feels vulnerble, and probably next on everyone's lists after voting Kelley.  Tabatha suggests that Risk push Diana into voting one of the others.

Rick has another idea.  "If we can get the final-two attitude going, then people will start to see who the real threat is in our group.  Honestly, I can't see anyone winning against Diana.  Everyone loves her."  Rick expects that Diana would probably win against anyone else in the game.

KEYANO, DAY 32

Tabatha has a better night's sleep after the rain lets up.  Feeling refreshed, she checks with Rick, if he's ready for what could be a big challenge.  Rick's ready for it, especialy given the mood in camp.  It seems to have been pretty silent the past two days.

Tabatha isn't sure what to do about the next vote.  Rick insists to her that, down to the wire, they have to think about it as who is the biggest Jury threat.  "If Diana is against any one of us, we all lose.  And if she is on the Jury instead, then each of us has a fighting chance against the other."

Tabatha goes along with Rick that she's been thinking Diana.  Rick says that he "honestly" believes that Jon, Kelley and Diana are going to target one of them... but it doesn't matter.  "With my reward, just you and I can get someone out," he says, since 3 votes is a majority.

Rick isn't taking a chance on 'reversing' an immune vote, so is waiting until after the challenge before deciding for sure.  But as long as she doesn't have immunity, Rick says that Diana would be his choice.

"Like I said, I am going to work my arse off in this next one," Tabatha tells him.  Rick says it would be cool if they both got perfect scores and shared immunity.  Tabatha wonders if they'd be able to collaborate and help each other win immunity, but that depends upon the nature of the challenge.

Diana startles Rick and Tabatha as she comes out in front of them.  She's found Treemail, and calls Keyano together to read it:

Number one was in Borneo,
The next in Australia.
After that is was Africa,
Then came French Polynesia...
Some Survivor sense may be of help to you,
Know your stuff to succeed.
Use speed for time you have precious few!
If immunity you need!

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE, DAY 32

Zoe welcomes Keyano to the Immunity Challenge.  "I hope you were watching closely... let's get started!"  For their task, Zoe has an Ultimate Survivor Fan trivia contest.

There are 40 general trivia questions about the Castaways and Survivor series, then a bonus of 10 quotes to be attributed.

In last place with 21 points is Jon
In fourth place with 22 correct is Diana
In third place with 31 correct is Rick
In second place with 35 correct is Tabatha
Making Kelley the winner with a whopping 47 correct!

"Congratulations, Kelley!  You are safe from Tribal Council tonight."

Rick offers his congratulations.  "Way to go, Kelley!  It was a toughie, again, and you scored near-perfect!"

Diana congratulates Kelley as well.

KEYANO, DAY 32

Rick voices to Tabatha his disappointment at not winning; they had third and second place on the immunity challenge.  Rick checks that Tabatha is voting Diana; she says that she is.

"Actually, I had an interesting conversation with her today," Rick tells her.  "She wants out of the game," Rick claims, saying, "She says she doesn't have the effort to put into it."

"Well, good, she gets her wish," Tabatha chuckles.

"It's kind of bittersweet," Rick muses.  "Diana was great fun, but that is what made her the threat she is."

"If it were a level playing field, it would be either you or I going next.  But with my reward, the playing field isn't so level anymore," he says, laughing.  Rick is more concerned about being set squarely against Jon and Kelley at final four.  "You and I have to win reward and immunity."  Rick bets there will end up being a tie, and Jon and Kelley have previous votes.

"I would say Kelley," Tabatha says of their next target, "she is a big threat as we have seen.  But me or you have got to win next."

TRIBAL COUNCIL, DAY 32

"I can't believe that tonite we will be down to the final four Survivors.  The five of you have played an amazing game... and always active, and for that I thank you!  You all are definatley at the top of my list for SC All Stars."

Zoe asks them to place their votes...

Rick is up last.  While placing his vote, he speaks to the camera to use his reward.

"I knew it might come down to this, and it is a bittersweet choice I make.  On one hand, it ensures me a more even playing field if I make it to the Final 2, yet it also guarentees that my dear friend won't be there with me.  Yet, I almost believe that she wants this.  She nearly stated as much this morning.  So, Diana's vote is cast for herself."

"Wow!"  Zoe has slipped up behind him.  She whispers, "This blows me away.  I thought you two had a final two pact since you were close friends."

Rick chuckles nervously.  "Yeah... but she'll win the jury hands-down.  Plus she actually said she wanted to vote for herself... she just doesn't have the energy for the game anymore, that she wasn't giving you enough credit by not giving the game her all.  So, I'll put her on the Jury, where she'll vote for me to win — hopefully.  Unless I totally misunderstood her and she'll be pissed as hell at me."

Zoe shrugs a little.  "Cool," she says, with a carefully neutral expression, and motions for Rick to rejoin the others.  Zoe collects the votes and follows him.

"Okay... Let's see how this tribal council goes..."

DIANA
Tonight my vote is for...Diana.
She is a strong player and I have to get farther in this game then she does.  nothing personal!
(Tabatha)

TABATHA (vote reversed back against Diana)*
My vote is for Tabatha, sorry.
(Diana)

DIANA
This has got to be the hardest vote of the game, yet a conversation I had this morning with you makes it easier.
I knew coming into this game that it may come down to me voting for you. I never wanted to, but its 'crunch time' and I have to look at the Final 2 and where that will play out. You're just too much of a threat there. Everyone loves you. LOL Ironic isn't it?
Yet, this morning it sounded as though you might have wanted the vote to go this way, so, while I do what I must, I do so with a heavy heart.
I cast my vote for Diana.
(Rick)

DIANA
DIANA ~ I love you girl! You're an awesome person and it's been great getting to know you...all my love.
(Kelley)

TABATHA
I don't think anyone really knows you. I don't know if it's UTR but the radar has spotted you and it is your time to go
(Jon)

Diana, the tribe has spoken, you have been eliminated from Survivor Canada 3 and now own the sixth Jury seat.

Thank You for playing and please post your final thoughts.  Don't go far though, as the final Tribal Council isn't that far away... so keep on watching!
