A Gift Through Your Will

A bequest, or a gift made through your will, is one of the simplest ways to make a gift to the Spina Bifida Association.  When you make your bequest, you may designate it for a specific purpose, such as programs, or leave it undesignated.  There are several ways to make a bequest:

Specific: You name the Spina Bifida Association as the direct beneficiary of a stated amount of money or a particular piece of property.

Percentage: The Spina Bifida Association receives a certain percentage of your estate as designated by you.  Because most people do not know what the exact size of their estate will be at their death, this may be a more appropriate way to give to family and charitable organizations in the correct proportion.

Residuary: You designate the Spina Bifida Association to receive all or a portion of the remainer of your estate once specific gifts to family and others are fulfilled.

Restricted: We generally prefer gifts without limits on their use so we can apply them to our most urgent needs.  But you have every right to restrict your bequest by directing how you want it to be used or allowing us to expend only the income from your gift.  You may restrict your gift for a specific area of work, such as research, programs, etc.  Please contact us before writing your will to ensure that we will be able to use your gift as you intend.

Charitable remainder trust: You can create a trust for a relatives benefit, ensuring the availability of income and principal for that persons support and comfort, and name the Spina Bifida Association to receive whatever is left when the trust terminates.

In memory of: You can make your bequest in memory of yourself or a loved one.  Well be pleased to honor your intent, and we have many ways to grant appropriate recognition.

Bequests to the Spina Bifida Association of Greater PA are deductible from your gross estate and can therefore offer estate tax savings.  There is no limit on the amount you can leave to the Association through your will.  If you can make a bequest, we would be honored to recognize you in The SpineLine, or keep your gift anonymous at your request.

We express our deepest appreciation for your consideration.

United Way of the Capital Region and Health Agencies
Reach New Agreement

United Way of the Capital Region (UWCR) recently reached a new fundraising agreement with our Association and 10 other local health agencies serving central Pennsylvania.

The agreement gives participating agencies Associated Health Agency status. This means the Spina Bifida Association of Greater PA (SBAgPA) will appear on UWCRs campaign materials brochure and pledge form -- and can receive designations from UWCR donors.

In the past, our Association appeared in UWCRs campaign materials as a Combined Health Campaign (CHC) agency. Over the last year, UWCR and SBAgPA chose to partner directly, rather than go through the CHC, to streamline the donation process.

Were glad the Associated Health Agencies have confidence in United Ways ability to manage this relationship, said Joseph M. Capita, president and CEO of UWCR. We look forward to working with the Spina Bifida Association of Greater PA to feature the continued choices we can offer through the United Way campaign.

The Spina Bifida Association is looking forward to participating with the UWCR in the Fall Campaign.  This will give us a wonderful opportunity to visit Central PA companies to spread our message about prevention and the mission of the Association, according to Patricia Fulvio, Executive Director of the Spina Bifida Association of Greater PA.  Pat is the founder of this local affiliate of the Spina Bifida Association of America, and the mother of a child born with spina bifida.

For more information about UWCRs campaign or the Associated Health Agencies, call 717.732.0700, or visit uwcr.org.
