| ABBOTT - James E. ABBOTT of Cordova was born in Hunterdon Co., New Jersey on 16 Sept 1828, and is 41 years old. He first drove a pair of hores on the Pennsylvania Canal and at the age of 16, began learning the printing business. At the age of 23 he became a civil engineer, and worked in railroad construction. He came to this country in 1858 and works for the Rockford, Rock Island, and St. Louis rr, as general agent. |

| ALLEN - George ALLEN of Coe was born in St. Clari Co, Illinois in 1825. He came to this county with his father in 1834 and with the excepttion of 7 years spent in Californa ( from 1849 to 1856 ), he has been a farmer in Rock Island and Henry Counties. |
| BALLARD - Capt. J.W.BALLARD of Andalusia was born in Augusta Co, Virginia in 1833 and came to Davenport, Iowa in 1844. He later moved to Andalusia in this county in that same year and went into the wagon and carriage business there. He is now the agent of the Rockford railroad there. During the Civil War, he was a 1st Lieutenant in the 65th Illinois and as Captain as the 47th. |
| BARNES - T.D. BARNES, Mr. Knox's assistant from Rock Island township, was born in Hampden Co, Massachusette is 12 years older than his co-laborer, having been born in 1806. At an early age, Mr. Barnes, with his parents, moved to New York and when he was 4 years old, they removed to Ohio. He farmed there for 18y after which he came to Illinois. He lived in Mercer County for 10 years and has since lived near Rock Island. |
| BIBB - William Bibb at Hamilton, Ohio. He began to practice law there in 1847, continuing there until 1855. In 1856, he moved to Port Byron in this county and practiced as a lawyer here until the Civil War when he was elected Captain of Co G., 126th Ills Vols. After the war, he resumed his law practice and is currently the county attorney. |
| BRUNER - William B. Bruner of Edgington was born 31 December 1822 in Wyoming Co, Pennsylvania. In 1843 he removed to Switzerland Co, Indiana where he remained for 6 years, farming. He served in mexico under General Taylor in 1846-47 and was at Buena Vista. He came to Edgington in 1852 and has been there since with the exception of 6 months service with the 93rd Illinois during the Civil War from which service he was discharged due to disability. |
| COON - Harrison M. Coon of Blackhawk, is a Pennsylvanian, having been born in Armstrong County there in 1812. He followed lumbering for many years on the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers and came to Rock Island County in March, 1866 where he has since farmed. |
| Johnston - E.H.Johnston of Port Byron, President of the Board, was born in Caledonia Co, Vermont in 1823. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1844 and then began to study law in the office of Gov. William Bibb at Hamilton Ohio. He began to practice law there in 1847, continuing there until 1855. In 1856, he moved to Port Byron in this county and practiced as a lawyer here until the Civil War when he was elected Captain of Co G., 126th Ills Vols. After the War, he resumed his law practice and is currently the county attorney. |
| KNOX - C.B.KNOX, of Rock Island, was born in Hampden C. Mass in 1818 and on leaving school, was apprenticed to a cabinetmaker. He left his native state in 1841 and came to Rock Island where he has since resided. Mr. Knox began an undertaker shortly after coming here. He was elected County Coroner about a year ago and has just vacated the office of Chief Engineer of the Fire Dept of this city. |
| MOORE - O.H.P. MOORE of Buffalo Prairie was born in Licking Co., Ohio in 1819 and came to this county when only 15 years old. He afterwards went to Iowa City and worked as a carpenter there when the town was laid out. He returned here in a short time and bought a farm in Buffalo Prairie. He was a member of our first Board of Supervisors. |
| MORRIS - Major John MORRIS of Bowling was born in Fayette Co., Ohio in 1823. At the age of 22 years, he came west to Fulton Co., Illinois. He came to Rock Island County in 1847. He enlisted with the 126th Illinois during the Civil War and was elected captain of his company. He served for 3 years and was promoted to Major. He was a county supervisor when the war broke out, and resigned when he enlisted. |
| HARROLD - William A. HARROLD, of Moline was born in Indiana Co., Pennsylvania in 1822 and came to Rock Island ni May 1835. He is a farmer. |
| WAINWRIGHT - Samuel WAINWRIGHT, Zuma is a native of England, where he was born in 1816. He came to America with his parents in 1819 and lived in Pennsylvania until 1837. In that year he came west and located in Rock Island County where he has spent most of his time since. |
| WILSON - Louis WILSON, of Coal Valley, was born in Champaign Co., Ohio in February, 1811. However, he lived in Green County until he was 18y old and he then moved to Indiana. In the fall of 1850 he came to Illinois and settled in this county, where he has since resided.He has been married 3 times and has 13 living children and 3 dec'd children. He has been a member of the Board of Supervisors 3 times. |
| NICEWANGER - Daniel NICEWANGER, of Canoe Creek is a native of Westmoreland Co., Pennsylcania and is 35 yeas old. He remained in that state until the outbreak of the Civil War when he enlisted in the Army and served untilthe end of the War. He came West in 1866 and settled in Canoe Creek twp. |
| UNDERWOOD - J.R. UNDERWOOD, of Drury was born in Morgan Co., Indiana in 1833 and lived in Clark Co., Ohio until 1840. In the fall of that year, he came to Rock Island County and has been a blacksmith in this vicinity since, except when he served in the Civil War. He enlisted with the 1st Iowa Infantry, was wounede at Wilson's Creek and discharged. In 1862, he enlisted with the 126th Illinois and served to the end of the war. |
| WEBSTER - William B. WEBSTER, of Hampton is one of our oldest settlers. He has served 3 terms on this Board, the first 2 during the was. He has lived at Hampton since his settlement among us and is a boot and shoe manufacturer. |
