(Friday, March 27, 1891) ARNOLD, L.W, eldest son of J.W. ARNOLD, was buried last Saturday at LeClaire, Scott Co, IA. He died on the 10th at Minneapolis, MN. His son, aged 4yr, died 4 weeks earlier. (Friday, March 20, 1891) ARP, Louis C., died Oct 8, aged 27yr. He was born in Davenport, IA, on March 6, 1865 and came to Moline, IL, with Dr. WESSELL about 21 years ago and has lived here since. He married Miss Hattie BARNARD about 4 years ago. She survives along with a son aged 3yr. He also is survived by his widowed mother and a brother, Dr. A.H. ARP of Moline. His will was probated Monday, with Dr. WESSELL and Dr. ARP as executors. Witnesses were Charles D. JOHNSON and Emil HEIMBECK. Named in the will were the deceased's mother and brother, his wife, Louis DOERFLER and his children. He was an old resident of Davenport, IA, but since the death of his second wife, Mrs. EFFLAND's mother, a few years ago, he has spent most of his time visiting his children and grandchildren. Last winter, he went to Paullins to visit Charles HOLM. The deceased was aged 83yr. The funeral was in Moline, Il. The remains were brought to Davenport by John GEISBERGER. he is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Louise GRANTZ of San Francisco, CA., Mrs. Annie ALICK of Davenport, IA.(mother of Mrs. GEISBERGER) and Mrs. Julia BILSTEIN of Portsmouth, NE. W. APPLETON of Muscatine, IA. (Friday, July 3, 1891 ) CLAUSSEN, Hans Reimer, one of the oldest Germans in Iowa, died Wednesday at his son home on 6th and Ripley Street in Davenport, IA. Cremation was Saturday. He was born in 1804 in Schleswig-Holstein and in 1851 was exiled by the King of Denmark, then the ruler of Schleswig-Holstein, for aiding an attempt to throw off the Danish yoke. He came to the United States and settled in Davenport, where he has since lived, except for 3 years spent in Lyons, IA. Ernst CLAUSSEN is a son of the deceased. The deceased has been mining in the West for a dozen years. His father is a well-to-do farmer and is aged 70yr. The funeral was last Tuesday, March 6th, at the residence of her aunt, Mrs. Susan FLAGG, near Coaltown, Rock Island Co, IL, with burial in the Universal Cemetery. She is survived by a small son. Burial will be in the Homestead cemetery, Rural township, Rock Island Co, IL, beside her husband who died in Ewart 20 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. DONNAN were early settlers of Rural township, coming here from Ireland an about 1847-48. They were among those who established the U.P.Church at Homestead cemetery. Their daughter, Mrs. McGONAGIL, was probably the first white child born in what is now Rural township. Two sisters of Mrs. McGONIGAL also survive. (Freiday, Jan 30, 1891) GRANT, Judge James, of Davenport, IA, died Saturday at Oakland, CA. He was born Dec 12, 1812 at Enfield, NC, of a family that descended from a Highland clan who fought for the Stuarts and were sent to North Carolina by George II after the defeat at Culloden. He graduated from Chapel Hill University in 1831 and came to Chicago, IL, in 1834. He then came to Davenport, IA, in 1838, where he at first lived on a farm. He was married 3 times, first on July 8, 1839 to Sarah E. HUBBAND "who was born within the sound of the waves on Plymouth Rock, of Puritan ancestry." She had one daughter who died in 1841 and then she died in January, 1842. In January, 1844, Judge Grant married 2nd wife Ada C. HUBBARD, who had migrated from Windsor, VT, to Scott Co, IA. She died in June, 1846, leaving an infant daughter who survived her mother by one year. On June 10, 1848, Judge married 3rd wife, Elizabeth Brown LEONARD who was born Dec 21, 1825 in Griswold, New London Co, CT. They had no children, but she survives. The funeral was Saturday in Davenport with burial in the family lot in Oakdale cemetery. Ex-governor J.B.GRANT and Dr. W.W.GRANT of Denver, CO, are his nephews.(Friday, March 20, 1891) HALEY, John, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. He leaves no immediate family, but dose have some relatives in this vicinity. He was a pioneer baker of Rock Island. He was a native of Germany and came to Rock Island in 1856. In 1858, he began the bakery business and continued it until 1880. He then purchased a farm at Linwood Springs below Davenport, IA, and retired there. His wife died there a few years ago. His sister, Mrs. Mary SCHANTZ, lives on 20th Street. He was aged 76yr. on the 13th inst. He leaves no children. Besides Mrs. SCHANTZ he is survived by another brother and a sister. ( Friday, Feb 16, 1877 ) WRIGHT, Mrs. Isabella, mother of Mrs. Henry CARSE and of S.R. WRIGHT of Rock Island, died Sunday at Holstein, IA, aged 70yr. Mrs. William ( Jennie) SAGE of Omaha, NE, is another daughter. The funeral was today at the residence of Henry CARSE. Mr. WRIGHT died in Rock Island, IL, nearly 2yr ago. The other surviving children are Charles WRIGHT of Davenport, IA; Thomas H. WRIGHT of Cincinnati and Mrs. Belle WINNIECK of Stuart, IA. (Friday, May 29, 1891 ) YOUNG, Mrs. D.T., died Saturday in Davenport, IA. She was born Sarah M. HUMPHREY in England in Oct 1830 and was married at Zanesville, OH, in 1852. They came to Davenport, IA, in 1855 and have lived there since. She joined the Baptist Church in 1850. She is survived by 6 children, Charles T. YOUNG, George H. YOUNG, Miss Fannie M. YOUNG and Mrs. Maggie W. HENDER, all of Davenport, IA; and the Rev T.S. YOUNG, pastor of the 1st Baptist Church in this city; and Robert O. YOUNG of Chicago.
