| Mortality Schedules 1850, 1860, 1870 |
| In 1849 basic legislation was enacted which required enumerators of the censuses of 1850, 1860, 1870 to ask a series of additional questions for the Mortality Schedules. For any person who had died in the twelve months previous to the enumeration, as of June first, they recorded the name, age at death, date of death (month) and state or country of birth. The purpose was to determine the death rate, disease prevalence and longevity. The Mortality Census reading is taken from the original longhand which is sometimes very difficult to read. The underlining indicates that the interpretation may not be accurate. |
