HISTORY

Welcome Back

Welcome to the largest and most successful lifesaving & lifeguarding club in Western Canada.  Since 1987, we have been creating lifesavers, lifeguards and leaders in Saskatoon.  That is our stated goal.  We look forward to having another awesome year with training, learning, certifying and competing.  We look forward to you being a part of our tradition of excellence.  We would ask that if you like what you see, tell someone else about us and the job we have done.  If you don’t like what you see, please let us know so we can find a way to serve your needs better.  Our head coach’s name is Chris Clark and can be reached at the above address and phone number.

Website

Our website has been completely redesigned with our members in mind.  Every piece of information imaginable can now be found on our website including past newsletters, a detailed calendar, coach’s information, club information, etc.  If there is anything that you think should be on the website and you can’t find it, drop us an email and let us know so we can serve you better.

Newsletters

A club newsletter is handed out at the beginning of each month. These newsletters have very important information about upcoming events with the club. If you do not receive a newsletter at the beginning of the month, ask your coach for one. It is important that everyone has a chance to read this newsletter so that you catch all the important dates.

Lifesaving & Lifeguard Competitions

A lifesaving and/or lifeguard competition is the best source of real-life rescue skill learning.  The difference between lifesavers & lifeguards who compete and those who don’t is staggering.  The confidence, knowledge and leadership that is gained from participating in even one lifesaving/lifeguarding competition is immeasurable except when it comes to exam time.  Anyone who competes in one of these competitions consistently outperforms those that don’t.

Experience in a lifesaving / lifeguard competition does wonders for a person’s job resume since it proves to an employer that the person is dedicated to improving themselves and have done so.  The best lifeguards are those who have competed in lifesaving & lifeguard competitions simply because they compete.  They weren’t the best before they competed.  They become the best because they compete.

We strongly encourage all members of our Senior Lifesaving and Junior Lifeguard Clubs to attend any lifeguard competitions that occur in the season and all of our Lifesaving Club members to attend the mini lifesaving competitions that will be listed in future newsletters.

Textbooks & Study Guides

Please make sure that you have read the section in the Rules & Regulations regarding manuals and getting study guides finished.   In some cases it may be possible for each family to own one set, although it may make things difficult during theory sessions with their individual coaches.  This is your decision.

All of the required manuals are available for purchase from the coaches at any time.

Textbook & Award Fees

Members can purchase the following required texts from the club.  The required texts for each club are listed under the club description in the registration pamphlet.  Orders for these books will be taken the first couple of practices and should arrive by the third week.

Sask-Rescue Notebook               $20.00

(needed by all club members)

Lifesaving Program Manual        $40.00

(needed by all Lifesaving & Senior Lifesaving members)

Alert Lifeguarding in Action        $40.00

NLS Standards Guide                  $20.00

(needed by all Junior Lifeguard Club members)

We have to pay an award fee to the National Lifesaving Society for each award we hand out.  This award fee must be paid for every award completed prior to the members being certified.  These fees will not be charged until a member passes his/her exam.

Bronze Star, Medallion & Cross  $33.00

National Lifeguard Service        $43.00

Aquatic Emergency Care           $33.00

Fundraiser

In order to keep our prices low, Sask-Rescue members are expected to fundraise throughout the season.  We recognize that fundraising has been overdone and we have made an effort to keep ours simple and in such a way that it actually benefits the members.  Over the last few years we have purchased brand new spinal boards, new ACTAR training dolls and more practice first aid supplies.

To complete their fundraising requirements for the season, Sask-Rescue members can do any one (1) of the following:

a)        Purchase one short sleeve red club t-shirt ($25.00)

b)        Purchase one long sleeve white club t-shirt with SASK-RESCUE down one sleeve and large rescue logo on the back. ($40.00)

c)        Participate in the IN GOOD TASTE fundraiser explained below and sell at least $30.00 worth of food items.

Members who are unable to purchase the club shirts are responsible for $10.00 of fundraising.  All fundraising must be completed before certification is possible.  If you have any questions, please contact Chris Clark.

Short Sleeve Red Shirts

We will have the red T-shirts available for purchase at $25.00 each from your coach after your practice for the next 4 weeks.

Long Sleeve White Shirts

The long-sleeve shirts must be pre-ordered by the October 22nd  practice.  Please fill in the following form and give it with the check for $40.00 to Chris Clark, the head coach by October 22nd at the latest.  The long-sleeve shirt will be WHITE with black writing on it.  It will have SASKATCHEWAN RESCUE down one sleeve with our logo in black on the back.  As to sizing for the long-sleeve shirts, the sizes are the same as the short-sleeve shirts.  If you don’t know which size you are in the short-sleeve shirts, you may try one on the days they are available for sale.

IN GOOD TASTE FUNDRAISER

The reason that we are offering this option is simply because the food is so AWESOME at In Good Taste, that our head coach wants to buy some more for himself and decided that the best way to do that was to offer the fundraiser through the club.  I will tell you that as a person with Ukrainian grandparents who made excellent Perogies, the ones available through In  Good Taste are unbelievably good.  I personally will be buying at least 4 boxes of them.

As a club, we get 30% of all sales made.  So if you sell $30.00 or more, you have taken care of your fundraising requirements.  That’s 2 boxes of perogies.  We hope that you will buy or sell more as we also know from experience that the cabbage rolls and the baking are beyond compare as well.

The nice thing about this fundraiser is that you get something that you really want and will use for the same price that you would pay at the grocery store and the quality is supreme.  Christmas is coming up and this would take care of any Christmas baking that you were not looking forward to doing.

We will be giving prizes to the top fundraisers.  The top 3 fundraisers, who sell over $100 of food, will each receive one free box of 4 dozen Perogies as a bonus.

HOW TO DO IT:

1.        With this newsletter, you have received one order sheet.  The order sheet gives the complete description and price of each item that is available for sale.

2.        As you make sales, make sure you write the person’s name down on the Order Sheet along with the number of items they have ordered under each appropriate column.

3.        Make sure that print the name and numbers neatly and carefully so they can be read.

4.        Make sure that you collect the proper amount of money from the person in the form of a cheque made out to SASK-RESCUE.

5.        On October 29th, you will be turning in the master ORDER SHEET with all of your customer names and numbers along with their cheques to your coach.

6.        Please place all of this in an envelope with your name on it so it doesn’t get lost.

7.        Make sure your name and your coach’s name is on the bottom of the master ORDER SHEET so we know who did the fundraising.

We will have all of the items available for pickup on either November 19 or November 26’s practice.  At that time, we will be giving you all of your items along with your master order sheet so you can get the items to the people that bought from you.
