Food Pickup for In Good Taste Fundraiser

The food will all be delivered on the December 3rd practice.  All of the food items for the In Good Taste Fundraiser MUST be picked up from the meeting room before 5:30pm on this date.  Any items not picked up are not guaranteed to be stored.  We don’t have the resources to store any items not picked up so please make sure that you make arrangements to pickup any food items you ordered between 3:00pm and 5:30pm from the Memorial Room on the 2nd floor of the YMCA

AWARD TESTING

In a couple of weeks, we will begin the testing of everyone in the Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Senior Lifesaving and Junior Lifeguard groups.  Students must have their Study Guides completed prior to any testing taking place.  As members are tested, any areas that the member is unsuccessful in will be communicated to the member immediately so that those areas can be worked on and improved in order to be tested again.

Study Guides

Please make sure that you have read the section in the Rules & Regulations regarding manuals and getting study guides finished.   In some cases it may be possible for each family to own one set, although it may make things difficult during theory sessions with their individual coaches.  This is your decision.  The study guides must be completed and handed in to your coach in order for a person to be examined for their awards.  Don’t leave this too late or you may only get one chance to be examined.  .

Award Fees

We have to pay an award fee to the National Lifesaving Society for each award we hand out.  This award fee must be paid for every award completed prior to the members being certified.  These fees will not be charged until a member passes his/her exam.

When a member passes an exam, their award will be available for pickup the following week.  If they pass the exam on the last day of practice, Dec 17, the award will be ready for pickup on that day.  All you have to do is pay your coach the fee listed below and your award will be given to you.

Bronze Star, Medallion & Cross          $33.00

National Lifeguard Service         $43.00

Aquatic Emergency Care               $33.00

Prairie Invitational Lifesaving & Lifeguard Competition

Our club hosts one of the largest and longest running lifesaving & lifeguard competitions in Western Canada every year in the spring.  This year, we are hosting this competition on Saturday, November 25, 2006.

We hope that everyone who is a member of the Lifesaving, Senior Lifesaving, Junior Lifeguard and Lifeguard Clubs will compete in the competition.   This competition will be an excellent practice and preparation for everyone’s testing that will be coming up right afterwards.  There is a distinct difference between lifesavers and lifeguards who have participated in a competition and those that have not.

Because we host this event, it is necessary that all of our club members do their part to make it a success.  We have always done so in the past and in fact, we are the envy of every organizing committee around as our club members do such a good job of volunteering along with parents and family members.

We will need volunteers to act as in the water victims, on land dry victims, score keepers and hosts.  As a victim, you will be literally getting to act as an injured person either in the water in the water rescue event or on dry land in the first aid event.

We would expect that every member of our club will set aside Saturday, November 25, 2006 to help their club run another excellent event that has teams from across Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba competing.

We have included a volunteer form with this newsletter.  We would ask that the club member fills one out and if possible, get someone else to come out and help too, a family member or a friend.  If you need more forms, please ask your coach.  The more volunteers, the better.  Especially for our club members, being a victim ends up being a lot of fun and an excellent learning experience.  Some of our best victims in past competitions have been parents of club members.  If you want to get into the act, fill out a form and come on down.

We greatly appreciate your help with making the 17th Annual Prairie Invitational Lifeguard Competition a success.

For more information on the competition, please go to our website.

Please note that we have added a Junior Instructor Club to our Jan – Apr session.  Check out our website for more information.
