Question:
Is a primer required with SanyChem coatings?
Answer:
For steel, a primer may be required to hold a prepared surface.
If the steel is topcoated immediately after blasting to a Near
White or White Metal finish and before any rusting occurs, then
a primer is not required. If topcoating is not possible immediately
after surface preparation, then a primer will be required to prevent
the degradation of the prepared surface. After surface preparation,
concrete substrates must usually be sealed with a concrete sealer
before the topcoat is applied. This prevents coating delamination
from sub-concrete water pressure. SanyChem offers a full line
of sealers and primers as well as caulking materials to repair
cracked or damaged surfaces. Check sealer and primer data sheets
for minimum and maximum recoat windows.
Question: Can standard
airless spray equipment be used to apply SanyChem coatings and
linings?
Answer:
Yes, standard airless spray equipment may be used for most products
and usually requires pre-heating prior to mixing for ease of application.
Check detailed product information prior to use. Hoses should
be 1/2" ID minimum ending with a 10 ft. 3/8" whip hose.
A reversible tip (.035) is suggested. Pressure at the pump should
be 90-100 psi, or the maximum recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
Plural component equipment may also be used and requires volumetric
check of the mix ratio.
