These are the 2 rigs that my Father built in 1964 and 1965.
They were a lot of fun.  One advantage was that
they were "street legal" and I even drove them to
school.   The first was built from a Henry J. Kaiser
and the second from a Jeep Willy's Station Wagon.

Here I am at age 15 as we have just
finished the firstDune Buggey.  Actually,
it was not quite finished, but it was
ready for a sand test!
sandrail1-climb-a.jpg (18153 bytes) Here I am plowing up some
sand.  With the engine up
front, it had large tires
front and back.
It also weighed quite a bit.

Dad and I are trying some jumps.
Amazingly, we actually
survived this experiment!

Dad was a good mechanic and
they were a good looking
combination.  The bottom picture
was an indication of many of
the problems I was to have
out in the dunes.

Here is Dad with the 2nd rig.
This was his last trip to the dunes.
He died in October of 1965.
