Without
Links, the Internet would not and could not work . So, what are links?
Well, links simply are what links you on to another page, may it be
within your own site or a page in another web site around the world.
They can also link to a book mark on one of your pages, so when you
click on it, it brings you to the right location within the selected
page. A typical example is the "page up" button. When you
click on it it brings you to the top of the page. But it does not
necessarily need to be the top of the page. It can be anywhere of
the page. You can also link to another page and at the same time link
to a bookmark position of that page. Links can also point to an email
address, so when you click on it the outlook express starts up with
the send to form already containing the address of whom you are sending
an email to. Links are also used for forms, as these forms have to
be send to a link.
It
can be either text, or pictures on a page that can be used as links.
It can also be
changing
text or
changing
pictures (when you put your mouse over it) that can be used as links.
A
jump menu
is also a link.
EXAMPLES
OF LINKS:
You
can click on the following red text . They are links.
For
example index.html
pointing to my home page
on this site.
Or
a link pointing within this page like
#start.
This
one points to a bookmark within this page which is at the top (you can
not see the bookmark). You can also link to my Home page in a different
way such as http://www.ledanet.com.au/~sandner/index.html. Or
you can link outside this site (browse back to my site by using the back
button of your browser if you click on the next link) http://www.geocities.com/sandnerw/index.html
,which is one of my outside sites. This one is on a server in the
USA.
Or you can email me by a link: mailto:[email protected].
The
things to remember is that the text you click on is not what determines
where you link to. The text can say anything you like! It is what
is written behind that text which determines the links. In the examples
above the text says exactly what is written behind the document for
the purpose of demonstration.
You
can also have pictures linking to another page or site instead of
text. It makes no difference. The buttons below are just pictures
and they could be any picture or photograph. They are also linked
to the same links as the text above. The text inside the buttons are
part of the pictures and can not be classified as text.
