| The assimilated elves, the eha Alfr, are generally likely to pursue careers similar to those of the other races among whom they live. As such, the Character Concepts discussed below will be most appropriate for pureblood Alfr or Jindu, as noted. Barbarian Barbarians are probably least common among the elves than among the other races. Pureblood elves have spent the past few centuries focusing on art, music, and culture, while the carefree attitude of the so-called "Noble Elves" does not lend itself well to a rage-channeling barbarian lifestyle. Nonetheless, barbarians can be found among the fringes of the pureblood Alfr and Jindu, particularly among the cloud and valley elves. Small bands of more primitive purebloods have been found, untouched by the modern world and with strong ties to the wilderness, their members almost becoming one with nature. While more primitive, these "barbarian tribes" still have an air of nobility and authority to them; indeed, some treat the other races as mere servants. Thunder Son (Cloud Elf Variant): Among the cloud elves, there has arisen a bloodline of warriors who are believed to be able to channel the very force of powerful storms. Looked upon by some as holy warriors, these Thunder Sons (they are all males) are typically the leaders of their mountain communities. Frequent storms give them strength and speed, whipping them into a frenzy not tyically associated with the peaceful elven folk. Suggested Skills: Climb, Jump, Survival Suggested Feats: Endurance, Storm Spirit Heritage, Wilderness Survivor Suggested Prestige Class: Storm Lord of the Cloud Elves (custom) Bard Bards are quite common among the elves, acting as keepers of ancient lore and tellers of old stories and myths. The elves are second only to the goblins in their depth of historical records, although unlike the goblins the elves have used the written word for documentation. Alfr and Jindu bards are unlikely to act as pure musicians; any musical or artistic performances by pureblood elven bards are most often intended to pass along information from the past. Some of these performances are so ancient and have become so obscure, however, that it is nearly impossible to interpret their meaning. The elves continue these traditions, though, in the hope that one day they will be able to glean some important information from their ancestors. Lameche's Wanderers (Silver Elf Variant): The silver elves are known to be the most musical of the pureblood elves, and many scholars believe that the modern concept of the Bardic Colleges was begun by the silver elves in the distant past. Lameche's Wanderers are a small band of silver elf minstrels who roam the world, singing ancient tales whose meanings are long forgotten. Many of their ballads are sung in a mysterious language that has yet to be translated by modern scholars. Linguists have noted, however, that some of the words of these songs have common roots among other languages in the world. The name "Lameche" is also a mystery; the silver elves do not know its meaning. Their first duty is to share their songs with others, to keep the stories alive until the day comes that the songs' meanings will be revealed. |
