Weapon and Armor Proficiency
The Arcanologist gains no new proficiency with armor or weapons.
Spells per Day
At every level noted on the chart, the arcanologist gains new spells per day as if she had also gained a level in a spellcasting class she belonged to before adding the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improved chance of controlling or rebuking undead, metamagic or item creation feats, and so on). This essentially means that he adds the level of arcanologist to the level of her other spellcasting class, then determines spells per day and caster level accordingly.
If a character had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming an arcanologist, she must decide to which class she adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day and caster level.
Arcanologist Knowledge
The arcanologist's primary role is to find, retrieve, and catalogue lost magical items traditions. She gains the ability to know legends and information about these topics, just as a bard can with bardic knowledge. If she already has the bardic knowledge ability, she may stack her arcanologist levels with her bard levels to determine the result of her Arcanologist Lore check.
Magic Device Mastery
The arcanologist is highly trained to discover the inner workings of magic items, to release and control their effects. Beginning at 2nd level, she may add her Intelligence modifier as a bonus to all Use Magic Device checks. In addition, if she succeeds at an Arcanologist Lore check for the device in question, she gains a +2 circumstance bonus to her Use Magic Device check.
Bonus Spells
At every even level, the arcanologist adds extra spells to her repertoire to further assist her in locating, identifying, and recovering magic items. She receives a bonus spell to her list of spells known for whichever arcane spellcasting class she is advancing with her arcanologist levels. The bonus spells are chosen from the following list: detect poison, erase, identify, magic aura, undetectable aura, find traps, locate object, obscure object, contact other plane, analyze dweomer, legend lore.
Ancient Magical Insight
At 2nd and 9th levels, an arcanologist gains sudden insight from studying ancient magical texts and grimoirs. She gains a bonus metamagic feat.
Sense Magic (Sp)
At 3rd level, the arcanologist gains the spell-like ability to detect magic in an item at will, simply by handling it and inspecting its aura. She must study the aura over several rounds, as listed in the spell description, in order to gain full knowledge of the item. She must also touch the item, potentially exposing herself to curses or other ill-effects the item may carry.
Script Reader
At 3rd, 6th, and 9th levels, the arcanologist add a cumulative +2 bonus to her Decipher Script skill checks.
Bonus Languages
An arcanologist can choose any new language at 4th and 8th level.
Arcane Shadow (Su)
The arcanologist often has to hide her activities from others, especially other spellcasters whose magick items, spellbooks, or secrets she may be trying to recover. Beginning at 5th level, she adds her arcanologist level to her Will save to prevent a scrying attempt against her.
Trapfinding
Beginning at 7th level, the arcanologist is able to use her Search and Disable Device skills to find and remove traps as a rogue.
Spell Resistance
At 10th level the arcanologist gains SR equal to 20 + her Wisdom modifier.
