| Information for AETonist Priests: 3 | ||||||||||||||
| Priestly Vestments | ||||||||||||||
| The priestly vestments range from very simple, one-color robes for the lay priests and priests, up through very elaborate costumes complete with silk brought from the Far East, gold thread, and jewels (for the Pontifex Rex). There is little consistency among the vestments at the upper levels of the AEtonist hierarchy; it seems at times to be almost a contest among the Archclerics to dress well in order to prove how much money they were able to bring into the faith from their home country. Lay priests and priests wear very plain red robes (red symbolizing the "fiery zeal" with which they promote true enlightenment). They typically wear their hair long and somtimes place it in ponytails. High priests dress similarly to lay priests and priests but usually add a few pieces of jewelry. High priests and above also typically have facial hair which is oftentimes braided and perfumed with exotic oils. Jimalates, Prelates, and Archlerics all dress similarly to High Priests with much more jewelry and adornment. They also wear sashes across their chests (white for Jimalates, yellow for Prelates, and gold for Archclerics) and their garments are usually sewn with either silver or gold thread. These levels of priests also wear fanciful headdresses to indicate their station. The Pontifex Rex is adorned with rich, velvet robes of deep red which are then covered with light silk sashes of purple and gold across the chest and waist. He also wears a beard which is tied off into three strands and decorated with jewels. He wears a different precious stone on all ten fingers. The outfit is complete with an elaborate headdress/crown of gold. |

| Holy Symbols | ||||||||||||||
| The traditional and accepted holy symbol of Universal (Western) AEtonism is a circle (representing the world) encased within a pentagon (representing the Five Pillars of Faith). Eastern AEtonists use a simlar symbol but replace the pentagon with a square (as they do not subcribe to all Five Pillars). The symbols are typically made out of iron (a throwback to early human myths that evil spirits are allergic to cold iron). Higher level priests and nobles will usually have symbols made of silver, gold, or even platinum. The Pontifex Rex wears a holy symbol of solid gold with jewels inlaid on the circle of the world to represent oceans and continents. The religion uses many other symbols as well, including ladders and stairs (which symbolize the ascension to the Spiritual Paradise) and rays of light (symbolizing enlightenment). |

| The Canon | ||||||||||||||
| The Holy Canon is the spiritual book of AEtonism. Depending on the wealth of the particular area and the specific religious official involved, the Canon may take the form of a large book bound and inlaid with gold and jewels all the way to simple scrolls of favorite verses which are rolled together and tied with twine or leather straps. Priests are encourage to spend as much as they can afford in order to buy or make a better Canon to carry with themselves. | ||||||||||||||
| Prayer Implements | ||||||||||||||
| In addition to their holy symbol, priests and non-laity utilize prayer beads (two strands, one of five red beads representing the Five Pillars of Faith, and one of seven white beads representing the Seven Correct Aspects of Living). They also wear prayer shawls, long rectangles of red cloth worn over the shoulders during important ceremonies. Again, higher-level priests will have elaborately decorated prayer shawls while commoners will have simple plain cloths. | ||||||||||||||
