Information for AETonist Priests: 1 | ||||||||||
| Goal & Purpose of the Faith | |||||||||||
| The goal of AEtonism is to help its followers reach enlightenment through strict adherence to the rules, codes, and scriptures of the religion. Followers believe that AEton, the monotheistic god of the religion, wants his followers to reach enlightenment so that they will be able to assist him at the Last Day, when he will pronounce judgment and battle the demonic influences in the world. | |||||||||||
| Requirements of the Priesthood | |||||||||||
| Alignment Choices: Priests are allowed to be any alignment - most will be good or neutral. Like most people, priests are fallible and oftentimes a selfish, or even evil, person will enter the priesthood. This should not be taken as a reflection on the religion as a whole but rather on the individual. Minimum Ability Scores: As the cleric class. Feats, Skills, Weapon Proficiencies Required: As per the cleric class. Weapons will tend to be culture- or race-specific. Duties: Priests of the AEtonist faith have the duties of devotions, guidance, marriage, and missions. Devotions - AEtonist priests carry out extensive, ritualistic devotions every morning. They also conduct services for the faithful once a week (on Lyssol). The Aspects - There are very involved rituals for helping to teach the Seven Correct Aspects of Living to the faithful. The Aspects are taught, in specific order, at a ceremony which the recipient's family and friends attend. Usually a whole group of poeple will receive the Aspects at the same time and the ceremony will involve the whole community. Guidance - The faithful followers of the AEtonist faith will often approach the priests of the religion for guidance on matters ranging from marriage, family counseling, financial counseling, discipline for children, and help in following the Five Pillars of Faith and the Seven Correct Aspects of Living. Marriage - AEtonist priests have the duty of marrying couples into the faith. There is an elaborate ceremony which takes place at the local temple. Missions - Many times during his career, an AEtonist priest wil be called upon to perform special missions for the religion, including conversion of new cultures, the recovery of sacred relics, and at times, even holy war with the enemies of AEton. Rights: In addition to the duties mentioned above, the act of being a Priest of Universal or Eastern AEtonism carries with it the following rights. The Right of Coronation - Most countries in the western part of the Buchlayne will find it appropriate, and even desirable, to have their rulers crowned in a special ceremony by the Pontifex Rex, or his appointed Archcleric. In Esoria, this is a right that can be demanded by the faith. In other countries the right is much more tenuous and is, in reality, more of an honour. Many a king has been crowned without the blessing, or even the presence, of an AEtonist Archcleric or High Priest. These particular reigns do not typically last very long. The Right of Noble Marriage - In a similar vein to the Coronation Rights above, many rulers and other nobles of high birth will be married by an AEtonism priest. This is, again, not necessarily a right of the faith but more of an honour. It is also a highly political maneuver to have the wedding union blessed by one of the faith. The priesthood of AEtonism has been known to call a marriage null and void if it was not presided over by one of their members. The Right of Tithing - The AEtonist faith demands a 10% tithe from all living within the boundaries of one of their Clerical Realms (usually about the size of a county, although some Clerical Realms encompass an entire, small countries). The AEtonist leaders use this money to help instruct the less fortunate in the ways of AEtonism, in order to help them reach enlightenment. |
