The types of qualities you want in a leader are intellectuality, a responsible personality, and a civilized spirit. In the novel Lord of The flies, by William Golding, Piggy would make a good leader because he possesses these qualities.
Piggy is an intelligent character that has the ability to think of ideas to get rescued, stay safe, and survive. Throughout this novel, Piggy has been described as not respected and worthless person because of his looks and weaknesses. However despite his heavy and bulky body type. He has been behind most of the ideas for the group to survive in their new surroundings. It was his idea to blow the conch for a meeting of the survivors and he says, "I was with him when he found the conch. I was with him before anyone else."(21) The conch became the organization of them, and Piggy decided that the conch should be held when someone wanted to speak. He used to try and get a chance to inform the group of his input, "I got the conch. I got the right to speak."(44). His glasses help them to star the fire at the mountain, hoping to catch the attention of a ship.
An extremely important characteristic that Piggy has, is his responsible nature. He is often thought of as a "babysitter". Many times when he was relied on to take care of the littluns. He, in the beginning of the novel, took the names of all the boys that came to the first meeting.
Piggy, unlike the other boys on the island, has a civilized spirit to him. While all the other boys are starting to get wild, Piggy is still short haired, and still wearing glasses. This keeps him looking and thereby acting civilzed
