Rules and Directions for Our Game
Game Name: HOLDEN'S LIFE
Description of Game~ The game, "HOLDEN'S LIFE" takes you on a journey through the life of Holden Caulfield. You start by choosing to take a year off from school or to try a new school. As you play the game you will land on spaces that either ask you to pay money or collect money. There are also life spaces where you take a life tile because you actually did a good deed. If you liked the book, The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, that you will love playing the game, HOLDEN'S LIFE!!! We hope you enjoy playing the game.
Directions: Setting Up~ Each Holden Life Tile carries a special achievement, and a dollar amount which counts toward your total cash value at the end of the game. You get these tiles when you land on spaces that read HOLDEN'S LIFE on them. Do not look at the Tiles until the end of the game. If you land on a space that says you got drunk, you were smoking, you got into a fight, or you criticized someone than you will loose money. If the tile pile runs out before the end of the game, draw one tile from any opponent.
Money~ Choose one player to be the banker. The banker is the only person who handles the discharging of money and is the only person people give money to when they hand money into the bank. At the start of the game, the banker gives each player $1,000, which was the money he had saved from his very rich grandmother.
Cars~ Before the game starts, each player chooses a car and a peg and places it in the car, then place the car at the start position.
How to Play
· All players role the dice and the highest role goes first, the play then continues clockwise.
· When it's your turn, roll the dice and move the number of spaces corresponding to the dice.
· If you land on an occupied space, move to the next open space.
· On your first turn you can decide to either Take a Year off or start another high school
· Start another high school allows you more career options but takes more time and puts you into debt.
· If you Take a year off you are more likely to loose money because you are on your own.
· All of the spaces correspond with events that occurred in the book, The Catcher in the Rye. Each space has an event that Holden experienced throughout the novel.
· Once you have reached the end of the road, you will enter The Mental Hospital, because no matter what Holden did, he still ended up needed serious help and the only place where he could get that help was in a special institute.
· The opposition of the game is to be the player to have the most money by the time they enter the Mental Hospital.
· If there is a tie between the amount of money between players, than the person with highest number of Good Deed HOLDEN'S LIFE tiles wins.
