The word phony can be defined many different ways. I myself have used that
word many a times and just assume that the meaning is a given. Many people might define the word phony as a description of a person or thing that comes across as fake. Maybe the person you are calling phony is a superficial person who appears to care about others but really doesn’t. That is someone that could be called phony.
I recall a time when I was talking with my friend, when some girl comes up to us, ho never talks to us, and compliments us on out clothing and then asks to borrow a hair brush. My friend whispered to me " That girl is so phony." She only pretended to care about us to get something. People like this usually wears the same cloths as everyone else and thinks it to be her own style. She is friends with people who are liked so that she might be liked too. That to me is someone who is phony, a fake!
Not only can a person’s personality be phony, but objects can be too. You might see someone who has black eyebrows, but blond hair, you could guess that her hair is fake or phony. Anything that is phony is fake, unreal, and something that can not be believable. A person, who has many fake things about her such as her hair, plastic surgery will most likely have a phony personality. She will pretend to be something that she is not. I have found that phony people are people with very low self esteem, think very low of themselves and have to trick others to believe that she is better than she is, even though people would probably like them more if they are themselves and don’t try so hard. People do realize when someone is being phony, they know when people are being something they are not.
Even though someone has some fake physical aspects, that doesn’t always mean that they are phony themselves. I wouldn’t want to be friends with a phony person because they say one thing and mean another. They are not trust worth, because you never know if they are telling the truth or saying something fake to make they look better. They are not sincere or caring and those are important qualities to me that I look for in a friend. Next time you are talking to someone try and figure out if they are being phony and steer away from him or her if they are.
