FAQ's
What is Sacred Crossroads?
We are a diverse group of pagans who have come together to establish a
pagan community centre in Toronto. We are currently at the fundraising
stage, but hope to open a physical location early in 2005.
| Are you affiliated with any particular path or group? No. We have members from all types of pagan paths and groups as Advisors so that our vision can remain diverse and we can serve a broad range of community members. Though members may have various affiliations, Sacred Crossroads is "eclectic pagan." All positive paths are welcome. What's with the platypus everywhere?! The platypus is our mascot. Its name is Playto (Craft name: Squidgy). We had a contest to name our mascot. We feel that the bits-of-all appearance of the platypus resembles the nature of pagans; it actually came about from a rather silly conversation, and so we were accidentally adopted by the platypus. For more about Playto and the magical nature of the platypus, check out our Mascot page. |

Is Sacred Crossroads "not-for-profit?"
No, we are not. We don't intend to be, either. This is because not-for-profit
organizations must operate under strict government guidelines, which includes
the right to revoke not-for-profit status if they don't like what you do.
We intend to be a political voice, we intend to lobby for change, and we
intend to do it our way. We don't expect that the government will like
that very much.
We are very accountable for our funds, though. For further information, please see our Accountability page. If you have further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to e-mail us for a prompt response.
I heard you guys have media at your events, but I'm not out of the closet...
We believe that pagans should be accepted the same as other minority members
of the greater community. But we also believe that every individual has
the right to choose if and to whom they reveal their status as a pagan.
In order to be fair to everyone, we will make sure that promotional material
includes information about whether or not media has been invited to cover
the event so you can make an informed decision about whether to attend.
Most of our events will not be open to the media, as pagans require time
and space to socialize and celebrate without worrying about the media.
Are you available to speak to the media/give interviews?
We are always willing to speak to the media. Depending on the audience,
we will even have targeted materials available to help orient those unfamiliar
with paganism, or those who have specialized concerns or questions.
Can you give a talk or presentation at my school/workplace etc?
We are currently working on presentations and materials targeted to inform
and assist a variety of audiences:
*A basic "What is paganism?" presentation to address religious
and social issues and questions for adults and youths
*A religious tolerance/bullying presentation for adults and youths based
on the tragic suicide of Tempest Smith in 2001
*A presentation for professionals dealing with youth, concerning the issues,
problems, and strategies required for helping pagan youth
*We are also preparing an in-depth "Paganism 101" course that
covers the basics of paganism, techniques, paths, ethics, and more.
