The land of Jafre has become synonomous with darkness and evil. The land is ruled by the dark cultists of the Carpe`Nacht. It is also home to the Knights of Lunar. A large portion of this small continent is swampland. The Swamps of Anak is home to the Guild School of Anak. Though this school deals in the dark forms of magic, they are not involved with the Carpe`Nacht. They are seperated from them by the Darkwood Forest. The forest acts as a natural barrier. During the First Age, Jafre had very few inhabitants due to the nasty creatures which lived in the forest and swamps there. It was mostly a pirate's haven, a place to escape from would be followers. The first people to take residence on the isle were the mages who would build the Guild School of Anak. They were brought here by Izneria and would be followed shortly after by the Carpe`Nacht who arrived after the mages had fully settled. The High Priestess began building a city for her clerics to live. At her invitation, the Knights of Lunar moved to the isle which was rapidly coming under the Carpe'Nacht's complete control. The two had plans to attack the mages and force them off the island. At that time the headmaster of the guild school saw what was coming. He decided to take a preemptive step. He met with both the High Priestess and the Lunar Council, ruling body of the knights, and negotiated a treaty. The mages would control everything from the Darkwood Forest west and the Carpe`Nacht would control everything to the east. Mages would be allowed to visit areas on Jafre outside of their territory, but would be subject to the laws set forth by the Carpe`Nacht. The same would be true for those who entered the swamps and forest. From that point on, the groups respected each others' borders and no more was said. Though called the Isle of Darkness, there is very little crime or violence on Jafre. The groups maintain civil order, not through fear as some believe, but rather by a common goal. Those on this land, with the exception of some mages, are dedicated to Kuladar. That is the tie that binds these people together. |
