"I do well on standardized tests. (beat) What? I can't have layers?"

3.01 - Anne   9/29/98
Very good season opener where we're reintroduced to Lily from Season 2 and Buffy visits a hell dimension..  Dream sequences that feature David Boreanaz's Angel foreshadow things to come...
3.02 - Dead Man's Party
Buffy must deal with the fallout of her running away from home when she returns to Sunnydale into this episode.  Somehow zombies make an appearance, but are thankfully dispatched right before the groups patches up their differences.
3.03 - Faith, Hope, and Trick Essential Series Viewing
We are introduced to three new secondary characters in this episode: Faith, the rebelious next slayer in line after Kendra's death; Scott Hope, a new love interest for Buffy (who is revealed to be gay in Season 7 after the actor played a character on Showtime gay drama Queer as Folk); and Trick, a vampire henchman with much michief up his sleeve.  Also: Angel shows up at the very end, and he's all naked.
3.04 - Beauty and the Beasts  (Afterschool Special Moralizing Alert!)
All that you need to know from this episode is that physically abusing your boyfriend/girlfriend is wrong.  With a capital "w."  Also: Oz gets plenty 'o screentime, Faith is useful, and Buffy finds the newly free Angel.
3.05 - Homecoming  Essential Series Episode
A hilarious episode where Buffy and Cordelia get to square off for the homecoming queen crown. Things turn ugly (ie: funny) when Trick's henchmen confuse Cordelia for Faith and the two archnemises must work together to outwit five slayer-hunters.  Also: Xander and Willow share an unexpected kiss.
3.06 - Band Candy
Marching band fundraising candy turns out to make adults take on their former adolescent selves, with hilarious (but mixed) results. Giles and Joyce (Buffy's mom) get pelvicy on a police car, and Principal Snyder is only marginally annoying.
3.07 - Revelations
Arcilicious episode that foreshadows Buffy and Faiths future antagonism. Giles, Willow, Xander, and Oz discover that Angel is back from hell, and they are pissed.
3.08 - Lover's Walk
Spike returns to Sunnydale after being dumped by girlfriend Drucilla for a Chaos Demon.  Willow tries to use witchcraft to "delust" her feelings for Xander (and vice-versa), but are walked in on while making out by Cordelia and Oz when Willow and Xander are kidnapped by Spike. Cordelia ends up getting a steel pipe impaled through her torso. Ouch. Also: Buffy and Angel realize that they can never be just friends again.
3.09 - The Wish
This one's a fan favorite, mostly because of its comic-book style charm. Cordelia, scorned by Xander's betrayal, wishes that Buffy never came to Sunnydale and inadvertedly creates an alternate universe where the Master is still alive and Buffy never came to Sunnydale. Xander and Willow are revealed to be vampires, and Angel gets staked by Xander just as he does the same to him. By the end, everything goes back to normal when Anyanka (the vengence demon) that created the alternate-dimension-fun loses her powers.
3.10 - Amends  Essential Series Viewing
A tear-jerky episode where we're introduced to the First Evil, the future big-bad of Season 7.  God I love the continuity on this show. The First Evil tried to convince an emotionally traumatized Angel to sleep with Buffy, which would revert him back to Angelus. He resists, and attempts suicide by sun-exposure but is saved by the-snow-storm-of-ex-machinas.  This episode features excellent scoring by Christopher Beck, Willow seducing Oz, and the return of bitchy Cordelia.  Huzzah!
3.11 - Gingerbread
Ack!  Monster of the week garbage. A demon that tricks Sunnydale residents into believing witchcraft caused the demise of two young children convinces Joyce Summers and other residents to backlash against Buffy and the Scooby gang. Has hilarious Xander/Oz and Cordelia/Giles interaction.
