About the society

The Russellian Society is the philosophy society of the University of Sydney. We were established in 1975, and are a student-run body affiliated with the Department of Philosophy.

The society's objective is to develop understanding of the issues and language of philosophy -- both by the students of Sydney University and by other interested persons.

Despite its name the society has no particular connection to the philosophy of Bertrand Russell.

We maintain an e-mail notification list of upcoming Russoc events. Anyone, including non-Russoc members, is welcome to join the list.

How to join

Membership costs $5 for "access card" holders (Sydney University student union).

The main benefit of membership is the discount to Russoc guest lectures. You also acquire voting privileges: the society operates according to a constitution, and elects a new executive each year.

Entry to discussion groups is FREE, both to members and to non-members.

For enquiries regarding membership, please see any member of the executive at the next Russoc meeting, or contact the Russoc president, Michael Slezak, at michael [dot] slezak [at] gmail [dot] com.
