| It was early morning. The sun was just beginning to rise above the horizon. A shadow glided swiftly over the newly lit ground, changing its shape as it moved across the plains, over knee-high grass, rocks, and fallen trees. The air would have been still except for a fast, drum-like sound of bare feet pounding against the earth, made by a young Indian boy running. The shadow was his and seemed to be racing against him. 1 |

He ran with great contentment, in love with life and feeling very much a part of the world around him. He weaved effortlessly over and around every obstacle, as though he had run this path dozens of times before. But he had never been to this place, yet somehow deep in his heart he knew that this was a place he could call home. 2 |
