WWJD... What Would Jesus DRIVE?
I think the question should be WWJD...
WHY Would Jesus Drive?

When I heard on the news that there were people out there that wanted to start a environmental controversy over what type of vehicle Jesus would drive if he were here today, I almost fell off my chair because I was laughing so hard. I seriously thought it was a joke! As I came to realize that this was not a joke, however, I began to wonder if it was not a very clever new advertising technique. --Those shrewd little suckers will try anything, won't they?-- But no, it's not a joke, and it's not a new commercial for mini cars either. These people are indeed, very serious.

Well, I have a few things to say about that.

First off, let me just say that I believe, if Jesus Christ were alive today, He would have much more important issues to deal with than our petty squabbles with foreign nations over the use and dependency of fuel. However, since the issue of "What Would Jesus Drive" has been brought up, I feel the need to put my two cents in. Especially seeing how it is, in my opinion, a gross abuse of religious influence.

Now maybe it's just me, but I always pictured Jesus as being some
thing of a environmentalist. The kind of guy who would rather walk --or at the very most, ride a bus-- than take the chance of polluting the world by owning a car of any type. Because it doesn't mater what type of car you drive, it still uses natural resources, it still puts deadly emissions into the air, and when it's all said and done, the leftovers of the car will still pollute landfills. So sure, some cars may use a little less fuel than others, but they are still using it. And with everything else considered, that should be the least of our worries.

The thing that bothers me the most though, is that these people are
attempting to use their religious influence to sway others into not driving SUVs --which I am assuming is some sort of power play, because they have no problem with you driving a car, they just don't want you to drive a BIG car-- and in a world where religion is already starting to get a bad name, they are not helping matters much. I too, believe that we need to protect our environment and natural resources, but I would never use religion as a wedge to make my point.

So, to all the spiritual leaders out there that have taken up this cause, I
have something I would like to say to you... While I believe that, for the most part, your intentions may be honorable, I also believe you've been mislead. Before telling me what you think I should or should not be driving, I challenge you to "practice what you preach." Don't just drive a smaller car and call it good, chuck those car keys all together! And while you're at it, turn off the power in those nice churches you have, most of them will use more natural resources in one Sunday than any one SUV could in a entire year. For that matter, stop building those churches all together, you're only using up more resources in doing so and I don't recall ever reading in the Bible where Jesus had to find a building before he could talk to his followers.

Are you beginning to see my point?

In other words, before you start singling out and condemning someone else, consider what you are willing to give up yourself. And stop trying to use my faith in God to manipulate me into doing what YOU want me to do. I don't appreciate the insult to my intelligence, or the disrespect to my faith in God.

  And finally...

As I work my way through the gamut of emotions on this particular
subject --laughter, shock, denial, anger-- I find myself back at humor.
Especially when I try to picture Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior,
standing around with all his buddy's saying something along the lines of, "Dude! Check out my new Neon!"
