| Cruel and Unusual Punishment 02/08/03 by Rumpleteazer Please join me in my ban against Victor Tin Cat Mouse & Insect Glue Traps and other such pest control products. These traps are not only a cruel way to dispose of rodents, but they are a potential hazard to pets and humans, as well. In case you are unfamiliar with them, glue traps work in much the same way as old fashion fly paper. A sweet aroma is used to lure rodents into a small box. Once inside, a strong bonding agent lining the walls of the box secure the rodent and it's contaminants (hair, feces and ectoparasites) until you are able to dispose of them. Unfortunately, once the rodent is caught in this "glue," it doesn't die immediately -as with snap traps or quick acting poisons- it is a slow and painful death. I've even heard that some rodents are able to escape these traps after losing a tail or a limb or two. I don't think anyone could disagree that it's a terrible way for any living creature to die, even if it did eat your Cheerios. The sweet smell of these traps are attractive to pets, children and even the occasional unsuspecting adult, as well. So if you think this sounds bad for the rodents, just imagine your pet hamster getting caught in one, or your child's tongue! Improper handling these types of traps can be quite treacherous to your fingers, and/or other body parts. The glue used is very strong and bonds securely to anything it touches. Not to mention the potential hazards of coming into contact with the contaminants the rodents leave behind. The reports of glue trap mishaps are nearly legendary! So I urge you, please take a moment to jot down a short note stating your displeasure in the manufacturing of these products and send them to the companies responsible. In the mean time, stop putting yourself, your family and your pets at risk by using glue traps! Instead, you may want to try using a Victor Tin Cat Repeating Mouse Trap, which uses the same principle as the glue trap, but it does not harm the rodents, it merely traps them inside a metal box until you are able to relocate them, safe and sound, to your neighbor's yard. If you insist on using this type of pest control, however, you might want to keep in mind that contrary to popular belief, rodents are not mindless little fuzz balls. They know what you tried to do to them and their memories are not short. I highly suggest you take the proper precautions when going to bed at night, because they will try to get their revenge. Thank You for your support! |
