The truth about airsoft is that it isn't a cheap hobby. That being said, we at the Ruff Ryders understand that making the hobby inexpensive is key to attracting new membership. By working very hard to keep our uniform cost low we in turn free you up to have more money to spend on dope and beer. Firepower is key in airsoft and every dollar we save you in gear is another dollar closer you are to getting a Tokyo Marui or a G&P instead of an LPEG rifle. This helps everyone out!
To help the newcomer (and to refresh the veteran) we have established a grocery list of airsoft supplies that you will need in order to join up. Obviously we understand that not everyone will have access to these right away, but it's helpful for us to have this list so that everyone has an idea of what to buy. For the sake of simplicity we have posted specific items and specific brands on this website, but you do not necessarily need to buy the exact models suggested. It is not required that you buy the exact boots or goggles listed, we just added them for the sake of helping you. All items that are substitutable have an asterisk next to them (*) and further details on substitutions are posted at the bottom.
The list is broken into two parts, uniform and gun accessories. For the gun accessory section I have listed the prices for the Tokyo Marui SR16 AEG. Other AEG companies are more powerful, others make AEGs with more metal, and others are just plain prettier. I doubt you'll find one airsoft enthusiast that will ever deny the reliability of Tokyo Marui AEGs. The SR16 (or SR15 for those who don't care about copyrights) is a remarkable AEG. It has an M16 base making it compatible with pretty much any gear you find at a surplus store. The full stock holds a large size battery for all-day skirmishing. M16 magazines can be bought in quantity cheaply. In all this is a great base for a beginner. Tastes may vary, so feel free to hop on the forums and discuss guns with the team. Also note that I list a backup weapon on the gun list. Obviously nobody needs to have a backup gun, but it's always a great idea. You might leave your house with a working AEG and show up to the field 3 hours later with a broken one. I personally have left with 3 charged batteries and pulled up to the field with 1 already dead. For $30 a backup shotgun is always a smart choice.
+ - Airsoft games generally divide player sinto two sides, GREEN and TAN. OD is our main uniform but Desert Tiger Stripe BDUs should also be purchased.
* - These items have other available substitutes. Ask around on our forums for more details.

| Sample Vests (eHobbyAsia) |

This first vest, $28.99 with shipping from eHobbyAsia, is a great, inexpensive alternative vest that you can choose for your kit. This particular vest should be purchased with a hydration backpack which can be acquired for around $10 from eHobbyAsia. The manufacturer specs state that this vest can hold 8 7.62 mags or 12 5.56 mags, basically guaranteeing that any mags will fit nicely. Plus, with all of the pouches already included, this vest is field-ready.

This second vest, $39.99 from eHobbyAsia, is a slightly more expensive but more complete option. Holding 8 M4-style mags, this vest also allows you to hold 4 pistol mags which are perfect for holding speed loaders to help multiply your available ammo 3-fold. This vest also has a hydration backpack included, but you'll need to buy a bladder (which are very inexpensive).

This third vest is for the gear-whore in you. The base vest is the MOLLE vest from Cheaper Than Dirt and the 4 dual mag pouches are authentic tactical tailor pouches, $20+ per piece. The radio pouch, also tactical tailor, was $15. The hydration system in the back is a $10 setup from eHobbyAsia. In all this is a $100+ vest which provides a cheap alternative to an authentic IDF vest.
