I use this website almost everyday of my life for work and I have never had a problem with it. The pictures, graphics, and text have always loaded correctly. The mail link and web links all work. I have not tried to load this page with dial up, so I do not know how long it takes. All the important internal links can be found with little scrolling. This page uses strict xhtml coding. I checked the coding of the home page for validation at the W3C website, and it was found to be valid xhtml 1.0 strict.
I also checked this page for Section 508 Accessibility, and the page failed. There was a problem with the search tool bar. The error said it had to "provide an explicit label for each form control." Until this problem is fixed the web site cannot be Section 508 Accessible. After looking at many library websites, most of them do not meet section 508 guidelines. I really think libraries of all types should make the effort to have web accessible sites.
As I have already said in the content section of this website, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is easy to navigate because of its search bar, six topic categories, and links on the right hand side. Each topic category has a page that arranges all of the other pages under each category. The primary and secondary pages are organized and it is always possible to click the library logo and return to the home page. Overall, I think the average user can find the information they need because the site is fairly easy to navigate.
There is no site map or index, but there is a search bar available. The need for a site map or index is necessary because first time users may not know how to search this site.
