The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County's website has high quality information and resources available. The website's internal links are organized in a very user-friendly way...
This website is effieciently and effectively put together. There is a variety of local and unique information available. The home page highlights new books and Library News.
It is not easy to always find information right away, but after the user becomes familiar with the content and organization of the website it is much easier to use. The Library should include a site map, so first time users can learn where the content of material and information is located.
The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County consistently displays their logo and Mission Statement in the upper left hand corner of each page. The logo is also put on every library card. The website has a consistent "look and feel." The colors and simple wavey lines are seen on most of the pages. The links on the right side of the screen are eye-catching and fun. There is little clutter on the pages because of its organization and design. Kidspace has a bright green background with links to the kid's catalog, homework help, programs, fun and games, etc. The swirls behind each topic move in circles when the mouse moves over them. Teenspace offers teens an area where they can get information on books, homework, and other topics of interests such as links to comics and graphic novels on the web. The design is appealing with its black background and bright colors of blue and green.
I personally like the new design of The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County website, so I really don't think there are any weaknesses. However, web designing is based mostly on opinion, so anyone is welcome to disagree with me!
The website is kept up-to-date, which can be seen in the updates in program calendar, job opening, and new material. The library puts the last updated date on some webpages. The homepage is kept up-to-date with "Library News" and "What's Hot!", but there is no date to verify the last change on this page.
Most pages do not have dates of revisions and/or creation. The ones that do have the date on the right hand side of the page towards the top. Here is a page with the date, and here is a page without a date. This is one area that the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County needs to improve upon. Dates should be consistently displayed, and usually the bottom of the page is best. If the library would add the date at the bottom it would be helpful to users.
