Chapter Three
Sephiroth trudged through the snow towards his house. Alone.
Aeris still wasn't speaking to him after their little altercation this morning.
Not that it mattered much. He wasn't too interested in hanging around Aeris anymore. She was sadistic and mean-spirited. Nothing like him.
He heard multiple footsteps behind him and turned around, fully expecting to see a troupe of jocks running towards him, ready to pounce.
Nope. Just Tasha. And a few accomplices.
"Hey." She said, smiling. "What's up?"
Sephiroth mumbled a reply. He wasn't used to being around people, and they usually ignored him. Not this time.
That guy, Vincent, who'd been nice to him at lunch...the one without a hand...he was chattering about some guy in his sociology class.
"Nah, Cloud's not dumb." Tasha said, grinning. "He's actually pretty smart, he's just off in another plane of thought."
Cid laughed. "Zack is really smart, though, for a football player, right?"
Lucrecia smiled. "He's very nice, too. Not snotty like the rest of the football players."
Sephiroth hung out on the outskirts of the group, not wanting to impose. Suddenly, Tasha turned on him.
"What are you doing out there? Don't you want to hang out with us?"
Sephiroth smiled, slowly. Tasha's group really liked him...wanted him to hang out with them.
With a hightened spirit, he allowed the group to pull him into their interior.
Aeris pushed the door to her townhouse/apartment open. Her father was passed out on the couch.
As usual.
She trudged upstairs to her room and dumped her stuff. Her only almost-friend had been Sephiroth, and she'd fucked it up.
Her face hardened. Oh well. I don't need him.
I don't need anyone.
"Aeris!" Her father's voice resounded from downstairs. Her face paled.
"...Yeah?"
"Git yer ass down here right now!" He sounded angry. She closed her eyes and walked down the stairs, slowly. He was drunk again.
The whole group was heading to Tasha's house. Sephiroth was so involved in the conversation going around him that he completely missed his house.
Mom might be a little upset....
Just as quickly as the thought occured, he dismissed it. For once in his life he was going to have fun.
Tasha grinned as she flicked the light on in her house. And you needed it. Someone had decorated the entire thing in black, complete with the curtains that blocked out the sunlight.
"I hate it when I can't see the TV because of the glare from the windows." She said, gesturing at the curtains. She opened the door to allow everyone access to the interior.
Sephiroth was astonished to find piles of stuff scattered about the living room. Not a huge mess, but definitly disorganized. His mom would have a heart attack.
"So, Seph, what do you want to do?" Vincent asked, kicking back on one of the plush couches. Everyone looked at him, expectantly.
He felt a strange glow...acceptance?
"Rufus!"
The blond boy looked up at the sound of his name resounding through the hall.
"Yes?"
His butler, Jamison, walked into the hall. "There is a letter for you from your father, sir."
Rufus nodded, slowly. Letters from his father were rarely a good thing.
He tore the envelope open and scanned the letter. His face grew pale.
"My father is coming home." He said, eyes wide.
Reno stared across the small cell to Josh, who was staring out the small window. Lauren was in the girls section.
His mom was a little less than happy with him. He hadn't heard so much swearing since Cid Highwind had smashed his thumb in woodshop in eighth grade.
He sighed. This was his first time ever getting caught. He would never be this stupid again.
....Maybe.
Josh's parents came to get him after about an hour.
Reno was alone.
After about another hour, a woman came in to talk to him. "I'm Cheryl. I'm going to be your Probation Officer."
"P..Probation??"
The woman nodded, sardonically. "Consuming illegal drugs on city or state property is a felony in Nevada."
Reno swollowed. Hard.
"On the terms of your probation, you can either do a year on probation, attending at least three Narcotics Anonymous meetings and one Alcoholics Anonymous meeting per week for five months, or you can go to prison."
Reno laughed hysterically. "I'll take the probation, thanks."
"I figured as much. Today is Monday, so you will be required to attend at least one AA or NA meeting tonight, as proof of your dedication." She explained. Reno nodded.
Presently, a buzzer sounded. The woman got up and began to walk out of the cell. "Your mother is here."
Zack squinted across the field. He pumped his legs faster than he ever had before.
Touchdown! Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!
"Right on, Zack!" Cloud screamed at him. "You won the game for us!" The team hoisted him up onto their shoulders.
He grinned. It had been a good game, a close one. ANd it had been a distraction with the busty Tifa Lockhart on the Cannon Team for that game. Even though the ROTC uniform was designed to be as unsexy as possible, she managed it, and even managed some cleavage.
Then again, if you had boobs that big, you'd be showing cleavage, too.
Zack looked around the crowd that had surged onto the field. He couldn't find the person he was looking for...
Aeris was leaning against a pole of some sort, not looking her usual cool and aloof self. Her black dress was torn and she had black eyes. Zack narrowed his eyes.
Reno looked around the crowded meeting hall. AA meetings were usually crowded on Monday Nights, he was told, because of the Jokers Wild meeting that Gonzo ran.
There was a lot of comeraderie and joking, and a lot of prayer-type stuff. That didn't really sit well with Reno but he had no choice in the matter.
"The meeting is starting!" a familiar voice yelled. "Get in or shut up!" A grinning girl who Reno shockingly identified as Tasha Gonzales walked back into the room and closed the doors firmly. "All good, Dad." She said, to the man whom had been called "Gonzo."
"Good." He said, smiling.
"Hey, Ron, don't forget the chips tonight!" A guy yelled from the back. "Gonzo" grinned.
"Don't worry, I wont." He replied.
Reno felt lost. He didn't have any problems, there was no way he fit in with these people. He could stop booze and bud whenever he wanted.
Everyone sat, and "Gonzo" went through some kind of opening and then the group recited a prayer of some sort.
Reno sat and watched, keenly interested in why Tasha was at a meeting designed for Alcoholics. She didn't seem the type.
"Are there any non-AA related announcements?" Gonzo asked. Tasha raised her hand.
"The Wednesday Nite Alateen group is going to have a dance here in two weeks for fundraising purposes." She said. "We would like you to support us children of alcoholics by showing up. The dance itself is free, I'm going to be the Deejay, all that costs is food and drinks. The snack bar will donate fifty percent of what is earned to our group, and we will have a bake sale and a raffle going on." She glared. "Two weeks from Saturday. You better show!"
Everyone laughed as she sat down. "You get 'em, Tasha."
They continued on with the introduction thing and then they called up some people to read some stuff from books. One was called "What is Alcoholism?"
Reno listened and realized, deep within himself, that he fit most of these catagories.
I'm an alcoholic...
Then they did something called "chips." Tasha stood up and read some thing off of the card about chips, that they are used to represent certain amounts of time in the program. She looked around. "Is there anyone within the first twenty-four hours of their sobriety who would like a silver welcome chip?"
No one stood up. Reno swollowed hard, feeling eyes upon him.
He stood up. "I...I'm Reno...and I'm..." He gulped. "An alcoholic."
