AIMS OF THE DORCHESTER MUSIC FESTIVALThe aims of the Music Festival are two-fold:1. To assist young musicians with improving their performance skills.2. To provide an opportunity for young musicians to perform in front of a public audience.Many young people put in hours of intensive practice with theirinstrument or voice, as well as learn music theory to pass theirmusic exams. This investment of time and effort can often beperceived as having no focus, with the exception of passing theexams. Also, music instruction is often exam centred, ignoringthe more subtle performance skills.The Dorchester Music Festival provides a performance focus for young musicians by giving them the opportunity to play in a public concert, as well as providing useful feedback on their performance skills.We are most grateful to Grassby & Sons for sponsoring the event.
