| The Four Blackadder series, and the other stories in between, centred around the history of the Blackadder family, in each instance a member of the family whose name always happened to be Edmund Blackadder. It began during the Wars of the Roses, with Prince Edmund, Duke of Edinburgh, son of the fictional Richard IV. Prince Edmund was actually rather dimwitted, and relied upon his squire and manservant, Baldrick to come up with cunning plans. Prince Edmund, Duke of Edinburgh In the following series, The story was picked up with Lord Edmund Blackadder, a courtier at the court of Mad Queen Elizabeth I. Edmund was now more dashing, and a heap more cunning, while Baldrick became ever more dimwitted. Lord Edmund Blackadder The end of the second series saw the death of the entire main cast, but the third series shifted to the Regency Era. Blackadder was now Edmund Blackadder Esq. Butler to the Thick-as-a-whale-Omlette Prince Regent, with Baldrick as his equally thick dogsbody. Edmund Blackadder Esq. The final regular series finished in the trenches of France in the First World War. Captain Edmund Blackadder and Private. S. Baldrick finished the series charging over the top of the trenches into enemy gunfire, most definately killed in the process. It was a moving ending. Captain Edmund Blackadder Between the seasons however there were a few special episodes. Blackadder: The Cavalier Years for Comic Relief featured Sir Edmund Blackadder, a fervant royalist, charged with the job of beheading Charles I. Blackadder's Christmas Carol starred Ebeneezer Blackadder being shown his past incarnations to decide whether to be evil and nasty, or to stay fluffy and nice as he had been before. Then in 2000, Blackadder returned again, in a 30 minute adventure, aired in the Millennium Dome as part of the so called Millennium Celebrations.
