The Church, a Factor of Human Transcendence.
The Church shows us the path which leads to transcendence.
Penitence, the regret for wrongdoing and the humble
realization of one's general moral shortcoming, accompanied
by a strong and sincere resolution to change one's behavior
in order to meet God's will, is the first step toward
transcendence. Prayer, the act of communicating with God,
and meditation, that of thinking to our littlenes in the
Cosmos, are two different ways to attain transcendence.
The latter is this attitude of cultivating the spiritual
values and of getting loose of the material goods that
we cannot bring with us eternally. It incites us to forget
our immediate needs and to think to our salvation3 that
we can earn only by well-doing (or good writing). It shows us the path laid out by Christ, our savior, that of
resignation without grumbling, hoping without desponding,
supporting without revolting, and loving instead of
hating.
