The Roman Candles parade a showcase of young talent.  This power pop quintet has been in the scene for only a few months, and are already a favorite.  The band originaly began a couple of years ago but never accomplished much.  This latest "incarnation" of the Candles is sure to be around a while.  Songwriter/Guitarist/Vocalist Matt Hopper, describes their sound as straight up rock n' roll.  You can't pidgeon hole this band.... they're just The Roman Candles.  The depth of their chordal progressions, vocal harmonization, and their overall synchronization pays testament to their song writing abilities.  They play what they like and don't claim to be anything they're not.  As a musician I pay my respect.
This four piece is relatively new to the scene.  Keyser Soze is a tight band that plays original rock.  With a kind of psychedelic "Rage" funk meets almost Pearl Jam vocals this group sets you into a nice groove.  Their vocalist Aaron used to be in a band quite a few years ago with our resident S.H.A.R.P.  Jeff Scott,  called Option Overdrive.  Aaron has come a long way with his vocals and combined with the complex jazzy blues riffs and steady beats of the band their deffinite metal influence bleeds through to evoke very mixed feelings within the spectrum of their sound and the way you feel hearing it.  Keep it real and original in AK guys.
Hugga Mutha is the most original band I've heard localy.  These guys kick major experimental rock ass.  Two guitars, a bass, and drums are all this group needs to let you know they are the shit.  They don't even need a vocalist they rock so much.  That would just ruin the sound anyway.  HuggaMutha takes you from a slower melodic rock style straight into a thrash that makes you want to go nuts.  It takes a couple songs to get into the groove, but once you're there you don't want it to stop.  These guys take sounds that wouldn't normaly go together and mash them all together in a collage of brilliance that I don't even think that they are aware of.  I love this band.
