Apart from the first three pics (which were taken at the airport and then on the plane) these are all photos taken in New York City. Sandra and I were there for 4 full days: we landed on December 4th and then left for Vermont on December 8th. We travelled over together on the same flight and then waited in NYC for Wendy to arrive. Her flight was delayed because of the snowstorm we had so she only ended up arriving on the morning of the 8th, a couple of hours before we had to catch the bus to Vermont!New York was great! I thought it would be big, bad, and scary but it really wasn't. (Although we did just stick to Manhatten so I can't speak for any of the other areas!) I wish we could've had more time there but it was so expensive that we had to make a move before we bankrupted ourselves! Anyway, on to the photos ...

Unfortunately my mum couldn't afford the time off work to travel all the way to Jo'burg just to put me on a plane so she said goodbye in Swaziland. I didn't mind though - she promised she would be there to meet me and pick me up in February when I got back, and she was! |

We took this pic just before taking off, we were both so excited!! My first time overseas!! I felt sorry for the poor woman who sat next to us and had to put up with us for the whole 16 hours!!! It was a loooong flight. It took extra long because when we stopped in Dakar to refuel they discovered some little problem with an engine or something and took ages to fix it!! We had fantastic seats though - upstairs and next to the emergency exit so there was masses of leg room (like 2 metres)!! And I love the little tv's!!! |
This was taken on day one of our New York stay. We'd actually only just landed that morning but had to kill some time before we could be booked into our hostel. (So off we went to see the Statue of Liberty!) This was the first time I'd ever seen a subway - I have decided that they rock!!! I think every city needs one. (That's a map of New York in the background.) |

It was very pleasant - clean and secure. We slept in a dorm that sleeps about 10 - 12 people but it was pretty comfortable. You have to have a key card to get into any of the rooms and there are lockers where you can stick your stuff. They have huge ones that take your whole backpack. Another great thing about it is that it was right next to a subway entrance. Only downside is that it was fairly expensive, about $33 per night. |

This was also only a few hours before it started snowing. After that I was in snow every day until coming home. (Not including my 4 days in Florida.) |
