We also stole the argument by telling the electorate the truth about our failed economy under New Labour and about the harsh reality that we face in returning our nation to an even keel. After the Conference, opinion poll evidence indicated that there is good support for this honest approach and for the specific proposals made to resolve our national difficulties. Gordon Brown still claims to be the Big Spender and his only reply so far is the sell the family silver the Nations assets. Let us hope he does a better job of this than when he earlier sold our gold bullion assets at knockdown prices! The Manchester Conference was very well attended, with a massive crush to get into the auditorium on the last day to hear David Camerons excellent speak. Two members attended from the RLP Branch, Chris Barnfather and Joe Lonergan, and we found the Manchester venue very accommodating and the local populace very welcoming. Almost 400 fringe events were on offer over three days, so one had to be very selective. We were appreciative of David Camerons frequent participation at these events and we all came away from Manchester with a new swing in our collective step. TREASURE HUNT & BBQ Held at the Old Bridge Inn Oxton, what a cracking event this was with 110 enthusiastic treasure hunters raring to go. In beautiful weather, twenty cars left The Bridge at Oxton car park on the 20th.September to seek treasure in the adjoining countryside, returning two hours later to compare their scores. No one wanted to win the Booby Prize or receive the silly hat in compensation. The booby prize was collected by the Jolly Roger team, the runners up were Team Green but the winners were Team Brick. After an excellent BBQ provided by the proprietors of The Bridge, Garry & Jane Ievins our Parliamentary Candidate Cllr. Mark Spencer conducted the prize-winning ceremony. He also thanked the organisers of this happy and successful RLP Branch event, Sally and Garry Morpeth together with Elaine and Robert Smith. It was good to see so many younger people there, including many toddlers with their Mums and Dads. Perhaps we should do it again!
