Star Trek Deep Space Nine takes place in the 24th century and chronicles the adventures of Deep Space Nine a run-down space station in orbit around a stripped mining planet. Avery Brooks plays Benjamin Sisko,  The Captain of Deep Space Nine. The stations most important feature is its proximity to a cosmic "wormhole" a tear in space that acts as a shortcut to the unexplored other side of the galaxy. Because of the wormhole.
