1/1/05 - 6/30/05.

6/27/06   -I Looooove my new crock pot. I'm cooking bbq pulled pork right now. I started it last night, shredded it this morning and when I get home, dinner will be ready. Whoooooo, hoooooo.

6/23/06   -An Inconvenient Truth is powerful, inspiring and SCARY. Everyone should see this movie! Want to do something to help? Go to the store (or online) right now and buy a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl). Yup, it's as simple as that.
"CFLs use 60% less energy than a regular bulb. This simple switch will save about 300 pounds of carbon dioxide a year. If every family in the U.S. made the switch, we'd reduce carbon dioxide by more than 90 billion pounds! You can purchase CFLs online from the Energy Federation."

6/19/06   -How come there is no A battery? You use AA and AAA all the time, but have you ever used an A? And what about B? There's C and D. Why not B? Did they exist once, but went out of style? Or maybe the size or shape wasn't convenient for any portable devices. And don't even get me started on the 9V.

6/5/06   -I was going to talk about my weekend first, then realized that you are all probably on the edge of your seats, waiting for me to tell you about my new refrigerator. Well, it arrived safe and sound and is working great. It's been what, like two weeks now, and guess what... I still haven't gone grocery shopping. Some time this week. No REALLY, some time this week. Or next...
I got a lot of work done on my condo this weekend, which is good but seriously cut into my final fantasy time. I painted the discolored tile in my bathroom and re-caulked along the bottom of the tub. It was a considerable amount of work and didn't turn out looking as nice as I hoped. However, it looks 90% better than before, so I'm satisfied. This is a much more major event than it sounds because it was the last major project I had on my home improvement list before seriously looking for a roommate. Now I have no more excuses left.

5/21/06   -Today was cleaning day at Chateau de Glittere. I want to make a good impression on my new refrigerator. Turns out, the defrost system troubleshooting was a bit out of my league. I couldn't even figure out how to take the panels out without removing the entire outside casing.
Even though I had to spend the extra money, I am satified with my purchase. I found a good one (at least according to Consumer Reports) for a decent price (even lower than the max I was willing to spend). And it's an upgrade from the old one by almost 2 cu.ft. That'll be a big plus if I ever get around to finding a roommate. Besides, the old one was old enough that if I had fixed the defrost system, who knows how soon it would be before something else went.
Now that it's a done deal, I'm pretty excited. It gets delivered tomorrow afternoon. Then I can buy groceries again. I like eating out, but it does get expensive and if you want to go cheap, fast food gets old. It's also nice to be able to have milk around for cereal in the morning. I just hope all the condiments I have in my cooler are still good and I don't end up dying of food poisoning.

5/17/06   -Last night, I played FFX-2 for the first time in a few weeks. I stopped playing when I went to a science conference (my first ever!), Fronteirs of Myogenesis, the last weekend of April. Practically our whole lab went and I also got to see some former co-workers, so it was a blast. I learned a lot and came away more excited about research than I have been in years.
When I got back, I started working on a new project, so have been working late some days. Plus, TiVo had stock-piled a bunch of shows, leaving no time for videos games.
The latest development has been that my refrigerator is on the fritz. I've been trying different things to troubleshoot whether I can fix it or should just buy a new one. I think the defrost system is the problem, but still need to test to see if it's specifically the thermostat, timer or heater. I should have done that last night, but decided to play FFX-2 instead. Meanwhile, I have my remaining food, that which I thought would be ok in a cooler, sitting in half frozen ice (because the freezer isn't cold enough to freeze it all the way) which I add every morning.

4/19/06   -I've been a Final Fantasy playing fiend lately. I started playing FFX-2 about 2 years ago, but stopped when I moved to KY. I finally started playing again a couple weeks ago and am lovin' it. I also found out that FFXII is coming out in Sept. I can't wait! The battle scenes are a totally different format, much more like an online game. I hope I can keep up. If you want to check it out, there's a great website at http://www.ffxii.net/?nav=game/info

4/10/06   -I got to see Great Big Sea for the second month in a row. Awesome!

4/6/06   -It's spring! I love the spring, with the warm air, smelling of fresh cut grass; the junkos searching for morsels below wookpeckers knocking on trunks; and trees filled with white or pink flowers above bushes of bright yellow.

3/24/06   -There are three updates that I added today which go back to Sat, so if you want to know about Linen's N' Things' coupon policy, make sure to read all of them.

3/22/06   -It snowed here last night! Maybe not feet, or even inches, but enough for it to collect on the ground and still be here this morning.

3/20/06   -Welp, it's done. I cleaned my carpet over the weekend, thereby finishing up all the major projects that I've been working on since last June. Now I can finish unpacking and have a living room that looks like a real living room versus a place for storing boxes. Whooooooooo, hoooooooo.

3/18/06   -Linen's N' Things will not only take Linen's N' Things coupons up to 60 days after the expiration date, but they will also take Bed, Bath and Beyond coupons for the same amount of time. And if the coupon is for one item only, but you have multiple coupons, you can use a different coupon for each item you buy on the same bill for as many coupons that you have. Super!

3/1/06   -Whatever people decided to start eating jalapenos were a bunch of crazy Mos. I made jalapeno poppers for the first time last night. While cutting out the seeds, the spicy got into the air and made me cough. Later, I noticed that a few areas of my fingers were burning. Crazy. Regardless, the poppers turned out great.

2/28/06   -Have you ever had monkey bread? If you haven't and you like cinnamon rolls, you have to try some. I stummbled across this recipe on my new favorite website, recipezaar.com. I found this site when Googling for low-cholesterol recipes. It's great! You can do searchs by course, main ingredient, cuisine, recipe ingredients, etc. You can save recipes to a cookbook and add them to your shopping list. Remember back when I had that idea to make a program where you can enter a list of recipes and it creates a shopping list for you? Well, that's what this site does. It also allows you to change the serving size and adjusts the amounts on the list automatically. And if you upgrade to a paid memebership, you can add other items. Very nifty.

2/14/06   -Happy Valentine's Day!

2/13/06   -Man, it's been quite a while since I updated. I've had lots of stuff that I wanted to put on here in the past month, but didn't have the time. Now, I can't think of anything to say. Ah, such is the irony of life.
-Oh, here's something. Have you been watching the Olympics? I have a season pass for them on TiVo. I watched quite a bit over the weekend and found it strangely comforting. I have no idea why. I don't usually have time to watch the winter Olympics other than the figure skating. I like the figure skating. But yesterday, I had it on pretty much the whole day while I did stuff around the house. I like when they give you little biographies on the athletes.
-Speaking of TiVo, I bought a second one. CompUSA had 40 hour ones on sale for $20 with mail in rebate. I had considered getting a second one for the living room and at that price, I couldn't resist. Now I can record two shows that are on at the same time. And if I ever get around to upgrading to DSL, I can set them up on my home network and watch any shows at either location. So, now I'm set up for my old maid life. I have a rocking chair, cat (although only one so far) and enough tv to watch that I'll never have time to leave the house. "You stinker."

1/10/06   -I love my new bed! Well, it's not actually new. The matress set is the same one I've had since I bought my condo, but now it is all set up in the frame with night stands on both sides. The best new development is the down comforter. I've always wanted one and now I have one, and with a bright red duvet cover no less. It's so nice to snuggle up in that it's that much harder to get up in the morning.

1/9/06   -I'm totally bummed. They cancelled the evening section of the computer programming class I was going to take this sememster. Hopefully, they will offer it over the summer or next fall.

1/6/06   -I looked out the window this morning and it was snowing! It was so calming and peaceful. In contrast, on my way to work, I realized that my life is a big mess. I just can't seem to get caught up. I've desperately been trying to get my condo done before the new semester starts. I've made tons of progress, but probably still have about a month or two before I can start looking for a roommate. At least the hard stuff is done, painting, etc. What a relief that was! Now I get to work on the fun stuff.
Lowe's has these neat closet organizer modules where you can custom design your closet. I spent way too much money, but my closet is gonna look NICE once I get it all put together. I've also been gradually buying new bedroom furniture from IKEA over the past couple years. I just saw a desk on their website that will go perfect. Once I get that, I'll have all matching bedroom furniture, a first for me. I'm fully stoked about it all.
Once I get my bedroom in shape, I can get the carpet in the rest of the apartment cleaned and then organize my living room. It will be fun to decorate. I might even go crazy and invite people over. I've been thinking about having some movie nights, maybe bi-monthly. I figured it would be a good use of Netflix.
-I've been liking Netflix although it has been a little slower than I had expected. As I mentioned before, I figured over the holidays would be a good time to watch 24. However, the mail also moves slow over the holidays so I've only watched the first two discs. Hopefully the process will speed up now that the holidays are over.
