Archives: 1/1/06 - 6/30/06. 7/1/05 - 12/31/05.
1/1/05 - 6/30/05.
6/23/05 - Closing is tomorrow at noon. Today is Thursday Night Live.
6/22/05 - Got final approval on my mortgage loan! Everything is in place for closing this Friday.
6/19/05 - Happy Father's Day!
6/18/05 - Swingin' on Main is a wonderful event. Makes me home sick for Madison where these kinds of events happen much more frequently.
6/17/05 - I've decided to go ahead and buy the condo even though the asking price is more than the appraised value. There just aren't any other places that close to campus that are as nice that I can afford.
6/16/05 - The appraisal came back on the condo I want to buy for less than the asking price. Unfortunately, the other offer the seller got previously is a cash deal. This means that if I decide I still want to buy it, I have to come up with the difference because the mortgage company can only give you a loan for the amount the property is appraised for. Oh, what to do? What to do?
6/13/05 -And the moment you've all been waiting for...
6/11/05 - Went to Francisco's farm Art Festival. Even in fear of getting shot (this is similar to living in WI and not being a Packer's fan), I gotta say that I liked it better than the one I went to in Berea last month.
6/10/05 - The quest to finish the RiRi Glitter story has begun. Today I scanned in a bunch of pix. I didn't have time to upload them and write all the code, so these shots from my Florida trip (see 3/13/05-3/20/05 entry) will have to suffice for now.
6/9/05 - As a favor to my landlord, I showed my condo to a potential renter. One would think that he would want to be there himself, but apparently not. He must be pretty confident that I would have good things to say about him. I guess I did a good job since the prospective seemed interested.
6/8/05 - I know the rest of America is so over the polar bear on Lost, but what the heck is that about? It seems a little silly to me. Nevertheless, I find myself getting sucked into this show.
6/7/05 - Found out that the seller of the condo I want to buy had another offer. Uh, oh. Fortunately, we've already signed a sales contract, so as long as all goes well with the apprasial, I still get it.
6/6/05 - I've had the most crazy week. I've been working on buying a condo. It has all happened really fast and there's so much to learn. If all goes well, I'll be closing at the end of the month! Keep your fingers crossed.
- This past weekend was Dance Trance. A few Madison gypsies came, but none of my peeps. :( I missed you guys. I still had a good time though. Airdance was the band and they are phenominal.
6/5/05 - Last day of Dance Trance. I really like when dance weekends have a Sunday morning waltz session, even if it's with recorded music.
6/4/05 - Started packing. Oh, so much to do, so little time. At least if everything goes smoothly with the condo, I'll just be moving two floors down in an air conditioned building instead of to another location.
6/3/05 - First night of Dance Trance.
6/2/05 - Signed a sales contract for the condo I want to buy. Exciting.
6/1/05 - Just as I had hoped, they are re-running Lost this summer. Today I watched the first hour of the premier. So far, so good. I haven't fallen in love with it, but there hasn't been much time for character development yet.
5/31/05 - Had an appointment with a loan officer today and got approved, no problem. Next step, sales contract.
5/30/05 - Happy Memorial Day! I had a really good day off. Just bummed around the house, made pancakes for breakfast, watched tv, had a banana split at Graeter's (see below) and watched the extended dvd version of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.
- Graeter's has THE BEST banana split I've ever had in my life. You get to custom make it by choosing your own ice cream and topping flavors. Yum!
5/29/05 - Remember back in early April, I was all excited because they had filled the pool with water? Well, even though it was full, they had a "pool closed" sign up. What a disappointment. The sign finally came down this weekend, just in time for Memorial Day.
5/28/05 - Went to take another look at that condo I liked and I still like it. So much so that I signed an agreement to hold. I now have a week to get pre-approved for a home loan.
- Also, with the help of my sweetie, I fixed the toilet. All it needed was a new fill valve. I'm feeling rather handy lately.
5/27/05 - Open band contra was tonight and the callers were picking some FUNKY dances, one of which was actually an English Country dance.
5/26/05 - I've decided not to renew the lease at the place where I'm currently living. Instead, I'm either going to find a place with lower rent or buy a place in the building I'm living in now. Today I went to look at a couple places to buy, one of which looked quite promising.
5/25/05 - Helped my sweetie primer his downstairs bathroom and ended up with a paint spot on the butt of one of my favorite pairs of pants. Ooops.
5/24/05 - My toilet is broken. Isn't that just about the worst thing that can happen? Luckily, it still flushes. It just doesn't fill back up with water. I have to fill the tank using my plant water pitcher. What a pain.
5/23/05 - I haven't been keeping up with this for quite some time now so I'm gonna make a huge effort to get current. So over the next few days or so, check for updates dating back to 4/22/05. I'm not going to bother with 4/17/05-4/21/05 since I didn't do much anyway.
5/22/05 - Slept in waaaaayyyyy late and had donuts for lunch. Wasted the rest of the day watching tv, including The Apprentice finale. I had been rooting for Tana for a number of episodes, but I was really disappointed with the attitude she had about her team members in the final task. After that, I thought Kendra deserved it more.
5/21/05 - Today we ate lots of Graeter's ice cream and did some hiking in Berea to work off the calories. While in Berea, we dropped in on their annual art fair.
5/20/05 - I have a friend visiting from WI this weekend. Today we went on the Toyota factory tour in Georgetown. Kentucky's factory is soon to be the home of the hybrid Camry.
5/19/05 - Revenge of the Sith was AWESOME. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. My only disappointment was what they did with Amidala'a character.
5/18/05 - I'm going to see Star Wars, Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith tonight. That's right baby, opening night. Then I'll be offline for the weekend so you don't have to worry about me giving away any spoilers. I really should look into getting some form of internet access going at home. See ya, wouldn't want to be ya.
5/17/05 - Today I benched 175lbs.
Booo ya.
5/16/05 - Only 2 more days!
5/15/05 - So much excitment today. I watched Star Wars, Episode 2 and the Survivor finale.
- On Star Wars, Epsiode 2: This movie made such an impression on me that I could not remember a single thing that happened just off the top of my head. In fact, in thinking about how they could make Epsiode 3 dramatic when everyone already knows Anakin turns bad, I thought, oh, maybe the Emperor kills his mother. But nope, that can't be it, because she already died in Episode 2. You'd think I'd remember such a major plot event as that. Huh.
- On Survivor: How about that Ian? What a dunce. Actually, I thought he was kind of a sweetie. I was hoping he would win. Would you have stepped down?
5/14/05 - A couple contra dancers I know got married today. It poured rain the entire ceremony, but I thought it was kinda cozy with everyone huddled together under the tent. The crazy part is that the rain stopped dead on as soon as the ceremony was over. Do you think it's a sign? After the day I had yesterday, I wonder. But if it is a sign, what is it trying to say?
5/13/05 - Man, I don't consider myself a superstitious person, but just about everything that could go wrong did today. Don't even get me started.
- Just about the only good thing was watching Star Wars, Episode 1.
5/12/05 - 6 more days.
5/11/05 - Hey P-Lo. You're such a sweetie checking my website every day even though I haven't written in a while. Been crazy busy. You know how it is (quit playing spider solitare and get to work).
- Were you voting for Joyce and Uchenna along with the rest of the nation? So was I. Yay! This is the first season I've watched The Amazing Race and I think it's a great show. Looking forward to the next one.
5/10/05 - Had dinner at Tomo. Lots of grubbin' sushi and pan cakes, but no plum wine. How sad.
5/9/05 - Went hiking/birding and then had dinner out at Shaker Village. I never knew you could make lima beans taste good. Amazing.
5/8/05 - I totally flaked on Mother's Day. Sorry mom. I was busy helping getting LCC's graduation ceremony set up.
- Shout out to the most recent mom I know. You still owe me two dollars woman.
5/7/05 - Went to a contra dance at Artsplace. The hall was decorated all fancy for someone's Derby party. I thought it gave the place a nice atmosphere.
5/6/05 - You will not believe what I did today. Instead of working on updating this page after being offline for so long, I decided to work on the RiRi Glitter story which I know everyone has just been dying in anticipation for. Welp, I got all the pix downloaded and the code written. But before I uploaded the pix, I decided to back them up. Somewhere in the process, I ended up with two empty folders. Talk about pissed. I couldn't believe it. Don't worry, I'm still going to get it up, eventually.
- Since I was feeling violent due to my stupidity, I went home and watched Gangs of New York. It had some entertainment value, but not my favorite.
5/5/05 - Got an eye exam for the first time ever. I have noticed that my eyes get tired a lot faster when I read than back in the day. The doctor says that my sight is great, but since I spend a good protion of my work day on a computer, they get fatigued. He recommended that I spend $150. on a pair of glasses with special reflective lenses. Yeah right.
5/4/05 - I'm such a big stupid head. I can't even remember my friends' birthdates. I mistakenly wrote P-Lo's birthday into this year's calendar on the 3rd when it's actually on the 4th. Happy Real Birthday P!
5/3/05 - Happy Birthday P-Lo!
- I'm back online! Updates coming soon.
5/2/05 - Back on 4/22/05, I mentioned that my computer was very sick. The IT person at my work told me that I had a trojan horse which had taken over my computer and that I would have to kill it and start from scratch before I could plug into the network again. Instead, (at the advice of my computer-speak friend Brett) I downloaded a bunch of different virus-scan and spyware programs. Interestingly, AVG Free found a virus that McAfee hadn't and every spyware program I ran came up with different results. Anyway, when it was all said and done, my computer was back to running normally so the IT person gave me persmission to try connecting to the network again. Whoo hoo! It's amazing how easy it is to become dependent on your computer.
5/1/05 - Had a full day of fun including breakfast at Huddle House, tennis at Ecton Park, birding at McConnell Springs, a midday nap, Wing Zone for dinner while watching Shoalin Soccer (an amusing Japanese movie with oddly random acts of violence), and finally Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy.
4/30/05 - Had my next installment of Star Wars today. Watched The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. 18 more days.
4/29/05 - Happy Birthday Jessica F!
- Saw the new version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy today. Loved it. Although I've heard that if you grew up on the BBC version, you might not be as thrilled.
4/28/05 - 20 more days.
4/27/05 - 21 more days.
4/26/05 - I've been lifting weights the last few weeks. Today I tested my strength and found out I can bench 70lbs. Watch out!
4/25/05 - Happy Birthday Jessica A!
- Started playing a new Xbox game, Morrowind. I was just starting to get into it and the game froze up. Bah, bah, bah.
4/24/05 - Have you been watching Grey's Anatomy? I started watching it (as is probably true for most people) because it comes on after Desperate Housewives. Gotta say, I'm liking it. But I miss Boston Legal. Does anyone know what happened to it?
4/23/05 - Went to an open captioned showing of Beauty Shop. Queen Latifah is just hilarious. You go girl.
4/22/05 - Happy Earth Day!
- I haven't updated in a while because I haven't had a lot of internet access lately. My computer is very sick. It looks like I'll have to have her put down. Don't worry though. I'm gonna bury her in the special, secret pet cemetary. She'll be as good as new in just a couple days.
- Started my count-down to Star Wars, Episode 3 by watching Star Wars, Episode 4, 26 more days.
4/16/05 - Saw lots of fiddies at the Newport Aquarium and got to feed some lorikeets. I'll post some pix when I get them. Unfortunately, they are in WI so it'll take a little time.
4/15/05 - Went to Cincinnati for Pigtown Fling. I really enjoyed dancing to Brittany Bay, but I liked seeing my WI friends even more.
4/14/05 - My computer is sick. Every etherlink jack I plug into goes inactive after a while. What's up with that?
4/13/05 - Contradicting my procrastinator status, I finished and mailed my taxes today, a whole two days early.
4/12/05 - Saw Herr Lehmann and thoroughly enjoyed it. Any movie with a Violent Femmes song in the sound track is ok in my book.
4/11/05 - I've been messing around with smoothie ingredients lately and came up with a super yummy one.
4/10/05 - If you're a SciFi geek like me, you may already know that April is mini-series month on the SciFi channel. I finally caught Legend of Earthsea on TiVo and had a chance to watch before it was deleted. Yay.
4/9/05 - Saw 18 different species of wild flowers at Raven's Run today.
- Been meaning to try Tachibana and finally got around to it. I had a big ol' slab of bbq'd unagi and it was delish.
4/8/05 - Had dinner at Oasis. Some good eats although I can't fully respect any Mediterranean restaurant which calls dolmas, grape leaves. If you go, I recommend the Oasis platter. Oh yeah, how could I forget the baklava. Scrumptious.
4/7/05 - Can't wait until next week's episode of Survivor. What's gonna happen to Stephenie? I'm guessing merger. Otherwise, what happens to her if she loses the immunity challenge? She's not gonna vote herself off, so I guess she would just be automatically elliminated.
4/6/05 - What the hell happened to gas prices? A few days ago, they were around $2.11 and then yesterday they were up to $2.35. Boy am I glad I don't drive to work.
4/5/05 - A while back I mentioned being part of a "Canvas" project (see 3/12/05 entry). I finally got a hold of some pics from it if you wanna take a look.
4/4/05 - P-Lo found the perfect part-time postion as Director of Outreach for the Friends of the Dane County Farmer's Market. After years of volunteering, she is finally gonna get some monetary compensation. Congrats!!!
4/3/05 - Do you like SPAM? I just don't get it. I had a professor once who had a fascination with SPAM. He even had a SPAM baseball cap. Shout out to the Spring 1996 Bodega Bay class.
4/2/05 - The pool in my apartment building is full. Wow. In Wisconsin this doesn't happen until Memorial Day weekend. Don't get me wrong. It's still a little too chilly for a whimp like me to be swimming, but soon I'll be doing laps in my snorkling gear.
4/1/05 - 50 First Dates was cute, but not as good as The Wedding Singer.
3/31/05 - Since I'm actually posting this a few days after the fact, it shouldn't spoil anything. Don't you just feel so sorry for Ulong? They just can't catch a break. Isn't it about time for a merger?
3/30/05 - I haven't done any Argentine Tango for about three weeks so practice tonight was a bit draining, but much needed.
3/29/05 - I got an easter basket full of taffy today. Yummmmmmm.
3/28/05 - If someone says they'll do something soon, when do you expect it to actually happen? That day? The next? How about six days later? My favorite
online dictionary defines soon as
soon Pronunciation (sn)
adv. soon-er, soon-est
1. In the near future; shortly.
2. Without hesitation; promptly: came as soon as possible.
3. Before the usual or appointed time; early.
4. With willingness; readily: I'd as soon leave right now.
5. Obsolete Immediately.
I think six days later falls within those parameters, don't you? I have been procrastinating on updating this page because I was hoping to get the film from my spring break trip to Key West developed so I could post some of the pix. However, I still have not even gotten around to finishing the roll off. Those of you who know me are probably not surprised. In any case, I've given up on that idea and am going to resume my regular daily posts and fill you all in on the trip a little later than soon.
3/27/05 - Happy Easter! Even though it rained all morning (no Easter egg hunts for the kiddies) and UK just barely lost to Michigan State (no trips to Saint Loius next weekend for the adults). Bum for the whole family.
3/26/05 - Hitch will put you in a stitch. It's the best date movie since Alien vs. Predator.
3/25/05 - Why doesn't someone open a second Red Lobster in Lexington? At 5:40PM there was already a 30-40 minute wait. The food was well worth it though and it was fun to watch the lobsters in the tank getting all territorial. Poor little guys with their claws rubber-banded.
3/24/05 - Had some quality TiVo time this evening, watched a few episodes of Angel. They are re-running the last season which is easily the best one since James Marsters decided to keep on with his Spike character. Bloody hell.
3/23/05 - Have you ever met anyone who you could hang out and basically do nothing with and the time still flies by? I think that's the coolest.
3/22/05 - I'm back online. No time to update right now, but I will soon.
- Saw Un Air de Famille, part of UK's French Film series (see 1/18/05 entry). I love French films that have quirky characters who go through crazy life/relationship experiences.
3/21/05 - Approximately three weeks after the fact, I found out my parents' house caught on fire. Crazy! Don't worry, it was contained mostly to the garage and no one was hurt.
3/13/05 - 3/20/05 - Florida is lovely this time of year. Check back for more details "soon."
- Update 6/10/05: Finally got around to getting some pix up. Click here.
3/12/05 - Painted for the first time since, oh, say high school. I got to be part of Southland Christian's "Canvas" series. I'm not a member of the congregation, but I still got to paint and it was fun. If I'd have been more on the ball, I would have told you to tune in to Channel 27 on 3/20/05 to sneak a peak. However, I was not. This was the second time I've been on TV in the last couple months. Whooooeeeee.
3/11/05 - I probably won't be adding much over the next week or so, but please come visit again after that.
- If you have cable, but don't get the SciFi channel, you should add it to your lineup by Sunday. Otherwise, you'll miss the world premier of
Mansquito, starring Corin Nemec (Jonas Quinn on SG-1).
3/10/05 - Usually I'm an ice cream fanatic, but lately I've been craving cookies. It might be because I've been eating a couple every day with my evening cup of green tea. The irony is that I started drinking the tea because it's thought to possibly help with weight loss. My craving increased last night to the level that I wanted some home made ones, so I baked some chocolate chip cookies. I ended up making a double batch so I'd have enough to take some in to work and have some to freeze. That, combined with laundry, ended up taking so long that I forgot to have my tea. Oops!
3/9/05 - Have I mentioned the Photoshop CS class I've been taking for work? That's right, every Wednesday and Friday for the last couple weeks I've been getting paid to play with Photoshop CS for seventy-five minutes a day, not to mention getting a free lunch. A couple sessions ago, we learned about the liquify function. Super cool. It's new to CS, so if you have verion 7.0 or older, you probably haven't witnessed this wonder. If you are into this kind of thing, I recommend getting a trial version of CS from the Adobe website. You can find the "liquify" function under the "Filter" menu.
3/8/05 - Kodo was phenomenal! I highly recommend this show. What discipline. They have more in their pinky nail than I do in my entire body.
- Excited about going to see Kodo perform tonight. I'll let you know how it is.
- If I wasn't going to that, I would be getting free popcorn at Regal Crown Club 's FREE Popcorn Tuesdays. Every member receives a Free Small Popcorn with paid admission every Tuesday.

3/6/05 - If you like bird watching, Jacobson Park on Richmond Road is a great place to see lots.
3/5/05 - Didn't do much today. Still trying to recover from my illness.
3/4/05 - Portofino's has a super yummy mussel appetizer and tenderloin dish. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to try a dessert.
- Went to the Kentucky Ballet's performance of The Wizard of Oz. It was really good. I was impressed with the choreography, especially that of the wicked witch and the scarecrow.
3/3/05 - I've been feeling a little bit under the weather. Don't worry though, I've been taken very good care of.
3/2/05 - Have you heard about anysoldier.com? I just found out about it today because a friend of mine emailed me a link to this article from CNN.com. This is a great way to support the troops, even if you are against the war.
- It is butt ass cold here in KY.
3/1/05 - Saw Finding Neverland, only two days late. It was magical, quite enjoyable. Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet were perfectly cast. Are there any roles either of these two can't play these days?
2/28/05 - According to Wicked Moon, I'm a genius .
2/27/05 - Got to dance to Daniel's Klezmer contra band, 'Twas Brillig and the Mazl-Toves. What great energy on the dance floor.

2/25/05 - Going offline for the weekend. Hope you have a good one.
2/24/05 - Was totally lazy today. There were three fun things going on this evening that I could have gone to. Instead, I lazed around the house watching tv, took a bubble bath and a nap when I should have been baking cookies. Sorry P-Lo.

2/16/05 - Footage from my Roaring 20's class aired today on channel 27 and I forgot to tape it. Can you believe it?

- Because of Valentine's Day, the Argentine Dance instructors held an after class dance party that some of the more experienced dancers showed up for. I got to dance with several much more advanced leads. What an eye opener. I found out I could do stuff I didn't know I could.
2/13/05 - National Treasure is not quite as captivating, but a good flick. Fun for the whole family and educational as well.
2/12/05 - Went to a performance of "Love: German Style" by the Lexington Chamber Chorale with guest performance by the Lexington Vintage Dancers.
- Hero is captivating. Excellent imagery and use of colors.
2/11/05 - Have you ever played Imagineiff? It's the only board game I can win, so I think it's nifty.
2/10/05 - It was snowing as I walked to work today. That always gives me the most wonderful calm feeling.
- Found out that according to Jung, I'm an ISFJ type. I didn't think the description matched me 100%, but some of characteristics were dead on. A couple of the behaviors are things I've done in the past, but try not to anymore. I wonder what type I would be if I took the test again tomorrow, or a year from now.
- There was a pretty little red surprise in my mailbox today. I wish everyone was lucky enough to have friends as great as mine.

2/5/05 - TONS of people were out at the Arboretum today enjoying the 51 degree sunshine, including a little kid on a miniature motorcycle. Too cute.
2/4/05 - Watched Tango and then practiced dancing Argentine tango and ballroom tango. Watching a movie followed by dancing seems to be becoming a regular thing for me. Can it get any better than that?
- Today was wear red day. How absolutely fabulous for a red freak like me. I didn't even know this morning when I picked out my outfit and I just happened to wear a red sweater even though I wore red yesterday too.
2/3/05 - Practiced Lindy Hop at Roaring 20's class. I gotta get to a Hepcats dance some time.
2/2/05 - Want to learn a new contra dance move? There is this great move you can do during a courtesy turn which not very many leads know. It doesn't have a name, so let's just call it the swoop courtesy turn. After the ladies cross the set and you take left hands, the lead should wait until the follow is right next to him and then hold his left hand still and bring it down a tiny bit. Then the lead pushes his left hand away from him, causing the follow to spin around counter clockwise. As the follow is spinning, the lead does a 180 and catches her and then swoops her around, finishing facing across the set. If you can't get a good visual from my description, ask me about it at a dance some time. I'd love to show you. It's a wonderful move, but a little tricky so it should be performed with caution and probably not with beginners. It can catch the follow off guard so some people don't like it much. Others, like myself, love it.
- Tried the white chocolate banana cream pie at Rafferty's today and was a little disappointed.

1/31/05 - Argentine Tango is such an exquisite dance.
1/30/05 - Million Dollar Baby lives up to the hype. I was a little disappointed though that the sports montage accompanied by the cool theme song I was expecting never showed up.
1/29/05 - Saw Saw.
1/28/05 - Do you think guys should pay for dates? I always had the impression that if guys paid, they thought it gave them the right to try to make a move. Not that it matters because you can always cut them off. Anyway, recently, I offered to pay my portion of a dinner bill and was told no, that I was worth it. I never thought of it that way. So now I'm wondering, if you don't expect the guy to pay, will he get the impression that you don't think you're worth it? If you have any thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them. Just send me an email at the address listed at the bottom of the page.
1/27/05 - If you are an ice cream freak like me, you have to try Godiva's vanilla with chocolate caramel hearts. Heavenly.
1/26/05 - My friend Danielle has decided to marry her boyfriend. Congrats to you both!
- Don't you just love when a movie night ends with salsa dancing?
- Did you know that 68% of refined crude oil in the US is used for transportation? That seems like a lot. The good news is that the US economoy grew five times more than the amount of energy use in the past 30 years. Another interesting tidbit is that Kentucky has the lowest retail price of power in the US. Just one more reason for all my WI friends to move here.
1/25/05 - Tonight's French film series flick was Le Million by Rene Clair who thought of film more as dance rather than just a plot. He thought motion in film was more important than the characters.
1/24/05 - Mocha Monkey Mondays is no more. What a bummer.
- I still had the best day though because I went to Argentine Tango class. This is really exciting. Not only was I able to find a lead to take the class with, but he actually asked me. How incredibly flattering! On top of all that, he's a great lead and we dance well together.
1/23/05 - Happy birthday Erin!
- Saw Motorcycle Diaries at The Kentuucky Theater.
1/22/05 - Ate at Alfalfa's for the first time. I had previously been there for juice and chatting, but hadn't tried the food. I highly recommend the cranberry pecan pancakes.
- The Contraire Dance Association in Berea finishes off the Swing Shift weekend with workshops, a swing dance and a contra dance. I didn't go to any of the workshops but got there in time for the swing dance which was enjoyable even though I did more ballroom dancing than swing. The contra dance was excellent. Hotpoint really kicked it up a notch and the crowd was hopping.
1/21/05 - The Lexington Traditional Dance Association kicked off the Swing Shift weekend with a contra dance featuring Hotpoint with Carol Kopp calling. But a night of contra dance wasn't enough for me so afterwards I went to hear The Big Maracas play at cozy little place called High on Rose and did a little salsa dancing.
1/20/05 - As far as I can tell, the advertisement box shouldn't be blocking text any more. Please let me know if that isn't the case.
- Attended the first session of a Roaring 20's dance class. We learned the basics of Foxtrot and Charleston. Learning Foxtrot in a class will be good for me since I've never been a strong trotter, but I'm more jazzed about Charleston which we only spent 10 minutes on. Hopefully, we'll learn more Charleston moves next week.
- Another beginning for today was Brett and I working on the manatee puzzle his parents gave me for Christmas.
1/19/05 - Have you been wondering when I was gonna get around to fixing that pesky advertisement box problem? Well, I think your wait is finally over. I thought I was gonna be so clever and solve the issue by simply adding a few line breaks into my code. And it worked, at least on my computer. Then Brett pointed out that some of the words were still obscured on his machine. When we compaired the two, he realized that it wasn't a spacing issue but a difference in resolution. Luckily, he had already figured out a way to fix the problem by adding a right margin in the BODY line. This explains why Brett does this for a living while I am still learning (Ok, so maybe my knowledge isn't quite as vast as I implied before). He'll also reprogram your TiVo remote for you if you're too lazy. Kudos to Brett.
- P.S. Brett also reminded me about the first rule of web design, make sure to check how your site looks in all browsers, not just the one you usually use.
1/18/05 - Today was the first showing of this semester's German / French film series.
- The coolest thing happened today. I was walking home from work and I noticed a red-tailed hawk standing in a lawn across the street from my building. As I got closer, I saw that it was chowing down on a squirrel. It must have been hungry too because I walked right up to within 20 feet and it just kept on eating.
1/17/05 - If you haven't tried the Spicey Pickle yet, you should.
- Ray was definitely worth what I paid to see it. Actually, it was quite entertaining.
1/15/05 - Learned how to steam wallpaper border off. In the process, the guy working in the tool rental department of Home Depot welcomed me to "God's country." Wasn't that sweet?
- A Very Long Engagement is absolutely gripping.
1/14/05 - The open band was a rockin' at the contra dance tonight.
1/13/05 - Kinsey is a must see.
1/12/05 - Shaun of the Dead is a riot.
1/11/05 - Does that advertisement box that pops up in the upper right hand corner of the screen bug the crap out of you when it blocks writing? I figured it might 'cause it annoys me too. The only way to get rid of it is to upgrade to a premium plan which, yup, you guessed it, costs money. Unfortunately, that's not likely to happen any time soon because saving up for my Honda Accord Hybrid car has priority. Don't you fret though. I've figured out a way around it. So just sit back, relax, and prepair to be amazed by my vast knowledge of html.
1/10/05 - If you are interested in contributing to the Tsunami relief effort, a fun way is to attend Mike and Mick's Swingin' Bachelor Pad at The Dame every Monday through January. It's pay what you will and ALL of the door money goes to the Red Cross to aid the victims of the Tsunami disaster.
- Mocha Monkey has super yummy smoothies, especially the Nutty Monkey, that are only $2.00 on Mondays. What a great deal. However, I recommend going with someone who will pay the bill with their Christmas money so you can use yours to buy new dance shoes.
- Also, thanks to the Brett Bugle for giving my website props and to Brett for giving me props to Bill Gates.
1/9/05 - The UK basketball team just barely lost to No. 2 Kansas.
1/8/05 - Funked it up at my very first USABDA ballroom dance ever.
1/7/05 - I wanna be Fockerized. This reminds me of my recent Masonization. During my Florida Christmas vacation, I was "warned" that I am now part of the family, no matter what. How cool is that?
1/5/05 - Happy birthday to Steve.
- Viewed Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unffortunate Events. Good flick.
1/1/05 - Danced to a new "no name 6 person ensemble" consisting of Brett Mason, Cary Ravitz, Steve Bennett, Richard King, Eve Podet, and David Atcher at ArtsPlace.
