Awakening Rip Van Sabre

Awakening Rip Van Sabre

Project Bike 1997

This page tells the story of a father/son project that my twelve year old son and I took on in October of 1996. A friend has a 1983 V45 Sabre that he hasn't ridden in several years(more about that later). After I acquired my 84 V65 Sabre in August, along with the Clymer manual for the V4 engine series, I began to toy with the idea of buying my friend's dormant V45 and making it a project bike for my son and I to work on. Hesitant to plunk good money down without a good investigation, I made my friend the following offer - let us take it and see if, after some common sense actions, we could get it running. If so, we'll see if we can make a deal to buy it. If not, he'll at least know better the value of what he has.
