Awakening Rip Van Sabre - New Tires and Rebuilt Front Brake Calipers
Once we got the engine running, we were naturally anxious to ride the
bike. But we had a few details to take care of first. Almost everyone I
had told about the bike had advised me to get new tires to replace the original
that were still on the bike(and had plenty of tread left - along with cracks
in the side wall).
I was runnig Metzler's on my V65 and had no reason to be unhappy, so I ordered
the same for this bike.
We also had the front brake caliper issue to deal with. The Clymer manual advises that this is not a "do it yourself" item, so it looked like the
Honda service manager was going to get some of my money :(
And finally it needed state inspection in order to be legal.
So, in August 1997 we trucked the bike to my local dealer(but hopefully we'd
be able to ride it home!).
