- The Turbo IV is another enigne first created by SHELBY, and put into production by the factory. Intercooled and equipped with Variable-Nozzle-Turbo technology, where the computer controlled a number of adjustable fins to maximize the "spool." By closing the blades, the computer could add the effect of a smaller turbo, for quick spool-up. When fully opened, the blades on the turbo would allow much more flow for high boost and power. Down was the turbo lag of the average wastegate-equipped turbos, and up was the throttle response. - The VNT's were originally TII engines, that SHELBY reworked. - Began in 1989 exclusively on the SHELBY CSX (Note: As they were originally TII engines, they did NOT use the "commonblock", or any other 89 hardware, like the 2.5" swingvalve.) - Peak boost was still 12psi, still at 175hp, but torque increased to 200ft/lbs @3700rpm - 1990 - First/Only year for factory production - Used "commonblock," balanceshafts, 2.5" swingvalve, etc... - 174hp & 210 ft/lbs - Availability(total): Shadow ES(114), Daytona Shelby(536), LeBaron GTC *coupe and convertible(24!),* standard in Shadow Competition Package(27), Daytona C/S Competition Package(21) |
