- The Turbo I is the first turbocharged engine Chrysler used with only four cylinders. - Introduced in 1984
- Ended in about 1993
- 1984 - 2.2L (135 ci) w/ mechanically controlled wastegate set for 7 psi of boost
- 1985 - Computer controlled wastegate, Peak boost limit was also added (10 cumulative seconds per WOT application(s), one second added to "clock" for ever one not used up to 10 seconds.) 146HP@5200rpm & 168ft/lbs.@3600rpm
- 1988 - New intake manifold used, TII style, but displacement still 2.2L
- 1989 - 2.5L (153ci) "commonblock," Peak boost = 11 psi, 150hp@4800rpm & 180 ft/lbs@2000rpm
- 1991 - 2.2L TII dropped from production, TI gets: 1. Aggressive Fuel/Spark Curves, Higher/More aggressive Boost curve, Torque peak raised to 210ft/lbs (w/ manual trans, autos still had 180 ft/lbs.)
