Atop the Karfiguela Falls

In southern Burkina, the vegetation becomes denser. The sandy steppes of the northern part of the country give way to savanna and scattered forests. The more humid climate in the south and southwest of Burkina gives rise to more lush savanna and pockets of dense forests. The beautiful Karfiguela Waterfall lies a few kilometres north of Banfora and is reached through a track that cuts across sugar cane plantations. The waterfall cascades down from the Banfora Escarpment onto a riot of stunning rocks. The pools of water below the falls are infested with bilharzia so a waterfall shower can be risky. Water is channeled off from this river to irrigate the valley plantations.
