Two nomadic groups, the Fulani and the Tuaregs, share the vast areas in northern Burkina Faso. The Tuaregs are a Berber people and, like the Fulani, differ from the other ethnic groups in Burkina Faso. Originally from North Africa, the Tuaregs gradually migrated southwards across the Sahara, initiating "the camel revolution". As the Sahara became increasingly arid, horses, which are vulnerable to heat and thirst, were replaced by dromedaries brought from Arabia.
