At the Regina Humane Society, we know that education is the first step to improving animal welfare in our city and the rest of the world.  The purpose of this WebQuest is to demonstrate the great deal of responsibility and commitment involved with adopting a pet.  The choice to adopt a pet should be carefully considered and planned, as children will learn through this project.

To complete this WebQuest, each group of students will imagine that they are a group of siblings.  They all want a family pet more than anything else in the world, and their parents have finally agreed to consider it.  It is the children's responsibility to research potential pets, decide on the best pet for their family, and find a way to convince their parents of their decision.  Along the way, children will develop their research, decision-making, and cooperation skills - and learn what "pet care" is really all about.

This WebQuest has been designed for students in Grades Four or Grade Five.   Groups of three would likely work the best, but it all depends on you and your students.
