Extension Ideas
There are many possible extensions to this WebQuest to keep your students thinking about pet care and animal welfare.  Here are a few ideas and resources to get things started:

Let your students play the
All About Animals trivia game on the Alberta SPCA's AnimaZing website.  They'll be having so much fun, they won't even realize that they're learning!

At the bottom of the
AnimaZing homepage there are "Quick Facts" that are changed and updated often.  Read these and share them with your students regularly.

Find some animal-related
resources and activity sheets from the ASPCA's Animaland.  Why not try some dog and cat breed geography?  Use the worksheets "Cats, Cats, and More Cats", "Dogs, Dogs, and More Dogs", or "Rabbits, Rabbits, and More Rabbits" to help your students practice multiplication skills while learning about pet overpopulation.

Help your students learn about some
animal-related careers.

Share some interesting animal Q&A with your students.

Let your students watch some
pet care cartoons from ASPCA's Animaland.

Have your students write letters to City Councillors, MLA's, or MP's about animal welfare, environmental, or conservation issues.  Click
here to find your Member of Parliament.

Take an idea from Kids' Planet and have your students create nature journals.  For more information about nature journals, see the
Kids' Planet website.

Print off some copies of the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies' children's newsletter
Animals Eh? to keep in your classroom.  Give your students opportunities to read the articles that interest them.  You may even choose to base a lesson on an interesting and relevant article.  The CFHS website has teachers' notes to help you provide more information to your students.

Check out the ASPCA's
AnimaLessons archives for some great information and ideas.  The issue "Caring for a Pet" is a great companion resource for this WebQuest and includes some activity sheets that could extend the students' WebQuest projects.

Connect your students with the Regina Humane Society by bringing them out for a shelter tour or inviting us out to visit your classroom.  Visit
our website to learn more about the education programs we offer.  Tours and presentations can be booked by phoning the Regina Humane Society Education Department at 543-6363 ext. 224.
