There are 32 different kinds of dolphins, 6 kinds of porpoises and 5 different kinds of river dolphins that live in different rivers. Many people don't know the difference between dolphins and porpoises in fact many don't even know what they are. Well dolphins and porpoises are pretty much alike. Dolphins are amazing water creatures. These creatures can live up to 40 years but the average life span is up to 25 years.

These animals can taste but they can't smell. These carnivores usually eat fish and squid but it depends to where they are and their ecosystem. They use sounds like a whistle to alert or to  talk with the other dolphins. These smart animals use click sounds to rebound off objects so that they know if there is something in front of them they use this because they can't see very well they use this procedure specially for finding food.

These amazing creatures are capable of diving 300 kilometers in 20 minutes. It has been proven in researches and studies that a bottled nosed dolphin can dive 500 kilometers deep. The cool thing about these animals is that these animals sleep with using only have of it's brain. These animals are known as conscious breathers if they go unconscious they might die. When these animals are sleeping they float at the surface of the water and they also keep one eye open at all times. It is known that dolphins are capable of swimming up to 40 km an hour. Their skin are specially formed to swim fast and also to reduce turbulence.

Did you know that the larger the dolphin is the less time it can stay out of the water? The shorter the dolphin is the longer they can stay out of the water because it is harder for the bigger ones to breath out of the water. These intelligent animals have a bigger brain then humans.

Did you know that the dolphins greatest predators are " man"? It is "man" because when it comes to fishing for tuna they usually catch tuna fishes because they are usually underneath the pods of dolphins so they put nets to catch tuna but also dolphins get caught in it and they get tangled up and they die.
