| In February, the conditions were ripe for another surgery, we tried to wait as long as possible so that Daniel could grow. After a Cardiac Catheterization showed that the band on his pumonary artery was pinching it and some damage had been done to the artery, this would have to be repaired. Also Daniel had developed some sub-aortic stenosis. This would have to be cut out THEN the VSD which was seen as quite large, would have to be patched. The surgeon had to get rid of some of this stenosis, to help out blood flow in the heart. |
| This surgery was not fully successful. Daniel was only off the ventilator for about 24 hours and had to have it reinserted. (There is a long heart wrenching story that has been omitted here.) During a Echocardiogram it was discovered that there was still flow thorugh a VSD and the stenosis was still a problem. Antoher surgery would HAVE to be performed. Two weeks later another patch was done, Daniel actually had two separate VSD. There was much concern about the stenosis that was STILL left. It would be have to be closely monitored. The Cardiologists thought he would have to have another surgery within a few months. Including these two separate surgeries, complications from them and a bout with a virus he picked up in the hospital Daniel spent approximately 2 LONG months in the hospital. |
